Thank you Texas Tink. I gathered from another forum member that this requirement might depend on the topic of study. So, if someone were to do a historical research- say, on the leadership style of some American President -  they obviously must only compare and contrast already existing data, and offer a whole new perspective. However, if someone is taking up a topic like how dietary and exercise habits affect mental health, they might need to survey people, as this topic involves lifestyle choices etc. I am yet to formulate my topic, but I have been thinking along the lines of employee engagement, and it’s connection to mental health etc. Given this topic, I am wondering if I will be asked to actually interview people? There is substantial research on this topic, and if I am allowed to meta-analyze all that data, and offer a new interpretation, that might actually be good.

Again, it may depend on the mentor.  Several people in my class have topics where they could interview people to get original data/research, but no one has been asked to.  And the one person who suggested it for themselves was warned about it.  The textbook itself also has a warning basically suggesting that it's actually really hard to do surveys/interviews and get it all done and analyzed in time.

It seems to be up to the mentor. Some insist on original research, some do not.

What about Dr. Cody? Does he expect original research?

No, he did not. That's one of the reasons I liked him. I would have hated having to do surveys or some such. I don't believe in has value.

I have started the research process for my Capstone project. I want to know if there is a clear rule about how recent the sources must be? I found some very good research papers authored between 2001-2010. These papers carry a lot of info that I need. Will I be allowed to cite them, or will my grades go down for citing older sources? Of course, I have also identified many studies conducted in 2017, 2018. But I would still like to use the older ones too.

Likewise, I have also found some very good books authored in 2008. There is so much info in these books that will really help me further my thesis. Can I use them? Finally, can I cite any articles from Harvard Health Publishing, Psychology today, etc? What percentage of my references can be articles?

I don't see any problem with the sources you are suggesting, especially if you have some newer ones as well.

Check the syllabus to see what it says about the age of sources. I don't recall any limitations on age of citations in the business capstone, but yours may be different.

As a personal rule of thumb, I generally aim to find the most current sources as possible, but I consider anything within the last ten years is fair game. If you have to go back further than 10 years then its relevance depends on the material I suspect. Psychology probably doesn't change enough that recency will matter that much though, so going back 15-20 years may be perfectly acceptable.

Too bad you haven't started the course yet, you could just ping the course mentor to confirm the citation requirements.
Working on: Debating whether I want to pursue a doctoral program or maybe another master's degree in 2022-23
