TESU ASNSM in Mathematics Add-On for BA in Computer Science
#1
If I'm understanding the wiki properly, I only need a few extra math classes to get an Associates in Math while getting a BA in Computer Science. My math skills are not great so I'm planning to take the extra classes as a "warm up" before I get to the required Algebra and Calculus anyay.

  1. CSM Learn (BUS-210 Quantitative Skill for Business)
  2. Sophia Introduction to College Mathematics (MAT-105 Applied Liberal Arts Mathematics)
  3. Sophia Introduction to Statistics (STA-201 Principles of Statistics)
  4. Sophia College Algebra (MAT-121 College Algebra)
  5. Sophia Precalculus (MAT-129 Precalculus)
  6. Sophia Calculus I (MAT-231 Calculus I)
  7. Study.com Math 108: Discrete Mathematics (MAT-270 Discrete Mathematics)
The above list will get me 22 of the 27 credits I need to fufill the II. Mathematics section of the ASNSM. What other options do I have for getting those last 5 credits? ALEKS's Trigonometry looks to be a good option but I don't see Trigonometry on either the list of general education classes or the BA in Mathematics page.

Also, does the add-on ASNSM in Math require an additional Capstone? Based on this comment from origamishuttle, I'm not sure.

That's actually exactly what you need! https://tesu.smartcatalogiq.com/en/curre...thematics/

For the ASNSM Math, you need: Algebra (Quantitative Literacy section), Calculus I, and 15 credits of Math electives. The remaining 9 credits will come from the BACS classes.

I'm confused by this. Are you saying the 7 classes I listed are all that I need to fulfill the AS degree? That I don't need Trigonometry or any other math?

Exactly. You only need Calculus, a Gen Ed math, and 15 credits of math electives. 7 math classes total. The remaining 9 credits in the AOS will be things like Management Information Systems or whatever else goes in your BACS AOS.

That's correct! You've got everything you need - as per the link details... You're good to go on this one!

MAT-2310 Calculus I 4
- Mathematics Electives 15
- Natural Science, Computer Science, or Math Electives 9

And furthermore, the quote you have from the other member was in regards to an extra Cornerstone, not Capstone.

How are those different? The BA in Computer Science Degree Plan on TESU only shows a Capstone. Of course, the ASNSM in Mathematics page doesn't show either so ... I'm just trying to figure out what is needed to get this add-on degree.

That's cool, as I mentioned above... That's correct! You've got everything you need - as per the link details... You're good to go on this one!

As the difference to the Cornerstone and Capstone, they are different... Cornerstone is required for all degrees as it's an introduction to college courses and gets you the chances to use the learning system more, the Capstone is the final course for the Bachelors degree and some selective Associates too.

The way you've described it, sounds like Cornerstone is SOS-110 and Capstone is LIB-495. Is that correct? Where did this Cornerstone nomenclature come from? I can't find that word in reference to a class anywhere on TESU's website.

Can I ask why anyone would want an associates in math if they're getting a BACS? Especially if math is not their strong suit. I can't quite figure out why anyone wants this degree (and I'm not a fan of associates degrees in general).

I think cornerstone comes from TES-100, the previous 1-credit class that students were required to take before SOS-110(0) was a thing. I think the equivalent classes at COSC and Excelsior are also called cornerstones, so it's no wonder the name has stuck.
