Pell grants cover the tuition costs and any other expenses. The problem is the pell grant is based on enrollment and once you pay for tuition and books you won't much (if any) left, so it isn't that they don't pay for the enrollment it is that the money doesn't last long enough.
Take your pell grant amount and do this: Grant amount divided by four semesters = grant per semester (note that you must take two courses in each of the four semesters to get the full grant) Take that amount and compare it to the cost of six credits ($221 * 6 credits). Whatever is left is refunded (if anything is left). Pell grants cannot be used for anything but Online and Guided Study courses so e-pack, PLA, or TECEP exams are not covered. Also note that pell grant funds are based on an academic year of July-June, so if you have a grant for this year and haven't started classes yet then you will only get the aid for the portion of the "year" that is left (i.e. you can get half the grant and use it for Jan-Mar & Apr-Jun semesters). Basically the pell grant is not likely to cover much (if any) of the enrollment cost. The grant will come from TESC who will deduct tuition from it and refund whatever is left (if any). Basically you have to pay the enrollment fee and then you will use aid for the other expenses. If you have extra aid then you get some back but you'll pay every cent for the enrollment fee up front. More info can be found at: http://www.tesc.edu/tuition/Financial-Aid-Forms.cfm Look for detailed information inside the 2012-13 form: http://www.tesc.edu/documents/Financial_..._12-13.pdf
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.
