Also, in the wiki under Government/political science, it lists Sophia U.S. Government (unconfirmed). TAMUC accepted Sophia U.S. Government, so you can remove the (unconfirmed) part.

The following Sophia classes were accepted by TAMUC:

I added the update. Thanks!

I heard back from TAMUC that there was nothing I could take on Sophia to meet this requirement.  Are you sure these are accepted?

Finished Texas Government and Politics, received an A. That was a long course, the reading material and videos up to the 1st post test were very time consuming. Also finished CID 338 Talent Leadership in HR with an A. Sent in for my 1st acceleration class, taking CID 342 Leading Innovation next, after I saw a previous post where someone recommenced the class.

Also, I have not had any luck with TAMUC accepting the 2 listed classes on the WIKI for the 040 requirement, Sophia Visual communications and US history: Learn from the past, prepare for the future.
Is there any Sophia class they will accept for this requirement? They also did not take my visual communications Sophia class. I was hoping they would take the US history class as I just finished it but haven’t transferred it over. I’m struggling getting them to answer what I can transfer over for this credit!

On the plus side, I have 79 credits they have already accepted from community college and Sophia.
Houston guy. I'm on the north east side of Houston close to Lake Houston

TAMUC did not take any of my Sophia classes for the 040 requirement. Currently I am taking MMJ 1307 Mass communication in society for the 040 requirement through TAMUC. It seems to be going very good, I have finished 4 of the 6 exams, I only have 2 left and then the final paper.

Do you have to take TX History from TAMUC?

(10-07-2023, 04:38 PM)fromthedepths Wrote: That's strange. TAMUC accepted both US History I and II from Sophia. See attached.

I think Houston guy was probably talking about the 2 Sophia classes listed on the wiki, visual communications and US history: Learn from the past, prepare for the future. They were both listed as Sophia classes that would count for 040 at TAMUC.

Yeah, I have to take TX History from tamuc,  the 040 requirement, and then the 30 hours for the major.  They accepted my sophia and HCC transfers for everything else.

It's a small world.  I'm on the west side by Katy myself.

The TX history took me a while to figure out. There are a lot of videos and reading involved and no textbook. There are also several writing assignments, some are 1 paragraph, some are 3 paragraphs etc. When you take the pre tests, you are given the prompts for the writing portions. All tests are timed. Study the questions and answers from the pre tests in preparation for the post test. Write the paragraph and 3 paragraph responses for the post test. Have all of this ready before taking the post test.

I failed my 1st post test with a 74 or 76 because I did not have all of the paragraph responses ready, The second time I made a 90 something. After passing the 1st post test, I felt like I understood the requirements of the course. If you need any help with this course, just ask.

I just turned in my last assignment for the 040 requirement class. I took MMJ 1307 Mass Communication in Society. I would recommend taking this course. There is a textbook, and 95% of the pre and post test questions can be found in the textbook. I made A's on all the post tests, and submitted the final project, a 2 page paper last night.

For the 040 requirement, Intro to Ethics was accepted. My advisor said that Ancient Greek Philosophers would have been accepted as well. I'd double check with your advisor.

That’s what admissions told the onboarding specialist. I took intro to ethics too. I don’t believe I’ve spoke with an advisor yet. Would that be Brianna Harrison for BAAS in OL?  I’ll email her!

I’m excited to start, and was accepted to start on 10/31 but I’d rather not take any more than I have to. Right now I should be 33 credits from graduating (need Texas history too).

Yep...it's Brianna. She might ask for a new transcript to be sent but it's worth it for not having to take an extra class.

Houstonguy,

If you have to take the 040 from TAMUC the MMJ 1307 class I listed was not difficult. 5 or 6 post tests and 1 paper. It was very similar to visual communications on Sophia. Texas History will be the class that will take you the longest. I finished Mass Communication in Society last week with an A.

Interestingly enough, I emailed Brianna and she advised I call admissions,  After a brief conversation, they accepted "HIST1010 - History learn from the Past - Sophia Pathways" for my 040.  Intro to ethics from Sophia was accepted as 080 "PHIL1002 - Introduction to Ethics - Sophia Pathways" which is odd as I took Intro to Psychology at HCC which they accepted but it ended up as an extra unneeded elective.

Originally I did not realize I would need 6 credits of advanced electives and thought I could transfer additional stuff from Sophia, however this was not the case. With that said, I was able to satisfy all of my requirements except for Texas Government, six advanced electives, and the 30 degree specific hours.  I'm 39 short.  Not terrible, I guess.

I'm enrolling in texas government and CID 338 to start off.  Wish me luck!  I'm hoping to finish this in 3 terms, but if it takes longer that's fine as my company reimburses all of it as long as I pass.

Glad you got it sorted out.
I plan to finish by the end of May also. 33 more hours to go.
My wife is starting this semester too, but she is enrolled in the BGS program. She will need 36 hours.
