Passing the substance abuse exam determines if I get to keep a job offer I was just given. Can someone who studied the material on instant cert please tell me if the questions studied were very close to the exam? Did you pass? Was just studying on here the way to passing the substance abuse exam?

I can't say, b/c I didn't use IC.
Here is the fact sheet for DSST Substance Abuse. Use this to guide your study on Wikipedia and Google. Basically just go topic by topic. That, and the guidance from the Specific Exam forum was enough for me to pass. Good luck!

IC is a great tool however I always use more than one source for exam prep. While I passed the Substance Abuse exam with a good score, I did not find the exam particularly easy. I used a number of resources including a text book.
Best wishes to you.

Hi,
Here are the textbook ,drugs society and human behavior, online resources to help you. I especially like the audio files because you can download into your ipod (or burn to cd) and listen to them all the time. Just go chapter to chapter in the drop down box. The next link is the quizzes and a drugs chart. Also a big help.
Audio Chapter Summary
Multiple Choice Quiz
drugs of abuse chart:
Drugs of Abuse
controlled substance act:
Controlled Substances Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
more practice quizzes from another textbook drugs and society
Drugs and Society, Tenth Edition
Good luck!

Many of my other exams were studied for with IC. It is a great resource for many CLEP and DSSTs, and the Specific Exam forum is invaluable as well. If you're going to be taking a lot of these exams, I would consider IC. If Substance Abuse is all you will be taking, you can get by with the info in this thread.

Nope. Seems like I'm taking just about everything else though! I considered that one, but heard it was especially tough. And I'm lazy like that.
I just got started with testing and took Civil War and the Reconstruction, Substance Abuse and Here's to your Health this week.
Substance Abuse was the most frustrating of them as I found the wording on many questions to be odd and it was also the least likely of the three to follow closely to the flash cards. That being said, I really didn't put a ton of study time in this particular test and still passed with flying colors. Know the flashcards cold and study the tips in the test specific thread at a minimum. I also ran through the quizzes on this the Drugs, Society and Human Behavior site and found it very helpful. (Found here:
Drugs, Society, and Human Behavior)
Good Luck!
