I start my first class at UMPI through the YourPace program on Monday and couldn't be more excited. I'll likely only be doing one YourPace session though then transferring to the traditional pathway to get some classes in that the YourPace doesn't offer. I've lurked on these forums for awhile though and am truly excited to get started. I've been off school since January and it's been so strange for me as I've been in classes non stop for a couple years (minus one Christmas break for 12 days in 2020)
I'll be starting with Eng Comp II and Hum 103. I also need American Govt. and a language course but not sure how that is going to go as I'm not proficient in foreign languages. Either way, I'm crossing my fingers to get it all done in one session.
I'm transferring in 127 credits between my A.S., my previous University, and ACE credits. I AM EXTREMELY impressed with UMPI so far. All but a couple classes were accepted and the communication has been absolutely ?!!! I wish I had started with them a long time ago!
I'm curious on others experience with Foreign Language though, this is what I'm most nervous about!

Hi there! I'm glad you found UMPI. I've never truly dreamed of getting a degree. I was going to do the TESU path until I found UMPI and glad I did too. TESU was absolutely unhelpful and discriminated against me for being deaf, and the dean refused to work with me for being deaf.
UMPI gave me access to French/Spanish to review it. The captions aren't very good unfortunately on the videos and they are aware of it and trying to fix it. However, the material seems to be very thorough. The final is a list of simple questions you need to answer in Spanish or French, and basically a recording of you speaking it. If you're nervous, sign up for InstantCert https://www.instantcert.com/credit_courses/Spanish-I it costs $20 a month plus $15 to take the final exam. If you Ace all the assignments/quizzes, you only need 25% on the final (100 out of 400) points to hit the 70% requirement. This will cover your foreign language requirement.
Maine is a border state with a French speaking country and territory, so bilingualism and a second language is very important to the culture of Maine.
Their communication has been stellar and beyond amazing.

YES!!! I actually live in Maine so would prefer to take French if possible... I took it in High School but that was over 20 years ago. We have quite the melting pot of nationalities and cultures here, so honestly, having any second language will be beneficial. Your information that you just gave about the final is comforting though. I was looking at Study's language offerings and you have to write a paper and give a considerable speech in order to pass, it seemed quite daunting.
Originally when I went back to college, UMPI didn't have the pathway that I'm taking (Education Studies) so it was never a consideration. I was previously at Grand Canyon University but they are PRICEY!! I LOVE that I'm not only back to a state school, but the tuition is SO affordable! The fact that I can go at my own pace is also an incredible plus too because I tend to just work and get things done!!
I'm tucking the link away that you posted, I just checked it out and it looks quite manageable!! And affordable. Thank you!

UMPI has both French 1 and Spanish 1 available online. I completed Spanish 1. They're taught by the same professor. She speaks 4 languages. Spanish was not difficult. Everything you need for the course, she gives you. I wouldn't take many of their classes elsewhere. They're a lot less work at UMPI than Study. Good luck on Monday! Oh I hope you completed your orientation class. I was talking to someone on here yesterday who had not completed it and had a bunch of questions that were all in the class.

I was told they only have the Spanish available through YourPace, but I could do the French if I wanted over the summer through the traditional school. Maybe it's just the availability of when it's offered. I'm currently enrolled in the BLS in Ed Studies through YourPace and am transferring to the traditional school after I finish a few of the necessary GEC classes to do courses that will certify me for Early Elementary. I need a total of 6 EDU classes that aren't offered through YourPace.
I took a couple of courses last fall through Study and felt they were a ton of work, DEFINITELY earned those credits!!! - (wasn't really hard but definitely a lot of work ) but it was cheaper to get them done that way at the time. It's interesting (and hopeful) that the UMPI courses are good because I'm paying for it, I'd rather just take them all there.
I did do the orientation course, it was quite easy but also informative. I have been out of school for just over a month now and am SO READY to start classes again!!! It's been so weird doing nothing!! I've felt like I've been wasting time!!

According to the schedule given to me by my academic advisor, Spanish 1 and French 1 are both offered every semester in YourPace. They may not be offered every term though. The same professor teaches them. On campus they have more languages and more levels available. This summer doesn't look like all of the typical classes will be held on campus still. They've had a lot of classes online because of Covid. Those are completely different and separate from YourPace. The tuition is much higher as you'll see. Would it be worth it to complete your degree in YourPace then go to the campus for those 2 classes? I wonder if they're all taught the same semester. Kind of crazy that there's someone on here that lives close to the campus.

Very interesting info!! I'll definitely check into it for the language. There was some confusion as to what or when some of the classes were offered. My original plan was to just get the BLS in Ed Studies, which is completely offered through YourPace, which I can still do most of it (I don't really need that many classes to achieve this) but there a couple extra classes that AREN'T offered through YourPace, only the traditional campus (still all online but different paced and assignments of course). If I take those couple extra classes I will be fully certified in two areas to teach. It's actually really incredible. I should (between both pathways and going in the summer) be done after the Fall semester.
I should also say, while I do live in Maine, Presque Isle is WAAAAYYYYY up north, by Canada. I live in Southern Central Maine. UMPI is about 4 1/2 hours from me. I might try and visit during the summer, just to do it.

What's Semester 1?
Spring Semester (1) with two terms. Fall semester is (2). Summer semester isn't usually assigned a number. Sorry where I'm from we don't call things Spring Semester or Fall Semester we call them 1 & 2. And we call terms Quarter 1 - 4
