LaterBloomer: It took me 26 days of hell to finish Aleks Intro to Stats---but it's now a distant memory. Buy a bunch of printer paper and print out the examples, there are so many little details because the wording of the problems could be just slightly different but you have to solve the problem completely differently.

I did Intermediate Algebra first, but College Algebra was basically just a continuation of Intermediate. I passed College Algebra on my first assessment--not because I am smart, but because I had already so much experience with the Aleks system I knew how to answer the problems and use their goofy calculator.

I passed college algebra, & if I can do it I'm 100% convinced that anyone can. I have never even been able to fully memorize the multiplication table, & I'm in my thirties! I even liked math multiplication computer games when I was young (i.e. Math Blaster) but could never remember the multiplication table even with the games. When I was getting my associates degrees I waited until the end to take all the math courses, & ended up having to double up on them starting with remedial math. I would stay up until 4 a.m. doing math while keeping a full time & part time job. What eventually helped me was hiring a math whiz/tutor over Craigslist to double check my work before I turned it in. It probably to me 10x as long as other students to get the right answer, but I eventually built up the confidence. Of course, now I don't remember any of it... but I passed! Math was the worst for me, so I feel for you.

I'm so glad you are getting unstuck and have good options, like the enrollment extension.

Be very careful about letting your enrollment lapse; that can be very dangerous. I actually had a policy change while I was enrolled, and that was all the motivation I needed to get done before another roadblock prevented me from finishing my degree! Do whatever it takes to keep moving forward.

I haven't read all the replies but as a late bloomer myself I know how intimidating math can be. I know I can teach math but I make sure it doesn't go above beginning algebra. Statistics was a killer for me I had already earned my degree but I needed Stats to have my 15 math credits to qualify to teach math. The job I wanted was to teach both Math and science. It ended up taking me over 100 hours on ALEKS, I took many assessments and got to 68% once or twice I finally had every practice question printed out and put together by kind of question (it was as big as a textbook) when I took the assessment I took my time and looked over the practice questions to make sure it was asking the same things and figuring out step by step. I think I finally passed with a 71%. I know you can do it just take your time and if ALEKS is just to daunting try a class but DO NOT GIVE UP!!! You have worked too long and hard to give up. TESC does give you easy time add ons I think I did it a month at a time. If you need more the months you have paid will go towards that. Do not decide about that until May 30. You can call that day and extend for one month with a credit card.

I know how much this forum did for me when I hit those hard spots, that is why I still come back to see how others are doing. We are a very understanding community and since we don't have other "classmates" I think of this group as my friends and classmates.

We are behind you 100% and feel free to come and Whine anytime, we have all been there.

Well, you folks are more than kind. For future readers, when you think you've bottomed out, come here. It reallys helps. Since this post, I've ended my ALEKS account as I don't think it would have worked for me. But for a webinar, I'm done with FP's Strategic Management. But for a final exam, I'm done with PF's Business Statistics. The webinar isn't a worry; the final is. This is my second (?final?) try with PF's Business Stats. Please keep your fingers crossed for me. I've signed up for a correspondence course for College Algebra. While I won't meet my goal of graduating this September, December's a possibility.

Thank all of you for your kind thoughts and wishes. It helped me when I was in a low place.

Update: The good thing about bottoming out, is that there is only one place to go. Up!!! (No, I haven't been diagnosed w/ bi-polar, but I wouldn't rule it out.) While I really hate courses, I took Penn Foster's Strategic Management course. I got it done. Yes! I was still facing Bus. Stats. & Col. Alg. Although I dropped out of Penn Foster's Bus. Stats. last year, I figured I'd give it another go. It was painful. Fortunately for me, each of the four sections allowed you to retake the quizzes. I was able to finish them with a decent average. Then, the final. Oh, my stars and garters. How anyone could do all of that in one hour is beyond me. (FYI, it was open book, and you could use your notes. Baby, I noted like you would not believe!) Rather than use the calculator that they provided with the textbook, I used a ...TI30 something or other. AND it was pink. I didn't finish the test, and figured I was toast. Guess what? I passed. (It was graded within one day of receipt of the exam. How they managed to read my rabid writing is beyond me. Maybe it was a mercy pass?) I just now put in for the results to be transferred to ACE. Then, I'll send those puppies to TESC. The only thing between me and a BSBA - GM is my Col. Alg. course with LSU. While they give you 9 months, I've already used up 2 of them waiting for the textbook, and then putting it on the back burner for the stats. (Okay, I figure a meteor might hit the earth and destroy all life as we know it before I graduate, but the only thing I KNOW is between me and the degree is College Algebra.) While not yet ready to do a happy dance (remember, Col. Alg.), I am VERY happy.
