Straighterline Hides Negative Transfer Experiences

About a month ago, I sent my experience with transferring credit to Tarrant County College to Straighterline's transfer experience page: http://www.straighterline.com/how-it-wor...iences.cfm

The experience transferring the business statistics course to Tarrant County College with ACE was negative. They wouldn't accept the credit because it didn't come from an accredited school, so I will need to transfer the credit into a place like TESC first.

What upsets me is that straighterline does not post negative transfer experiences to their transfer experience page.

Unfortunately, SL (like ALEKS) is simply a private company that has sought ACE evaluated credit status, you are correct that they are not a college, I'm not shocked that they won't post your experience. Any college -like yours- chooses what credit (if any) they award, and your college has decided not to award credit for ACE evaluated courses. Using SL with the intent of earning credit at any school that doesn't openly have a partnership with them is RISKY. I've said before here, I'm not a huge fan of SL- I don't hate them, but this is a predictable problem that's likely going to come up many times.

Your other comment, about TESC, is going to get you in trouble too. You're going to attempt a credit launder which I can nearly promise you won't work. Colleges want original sources, so getting it onto a TESC transcript doesn't make it become TESC credit. It still is, and will always be SL credit.

You could attend TESC and earn credit because TESC awards credit for SL courses, but otherwise, you can contact your college Tarrant again and maybe change their policy change-etc.

What cook said, sl is a business not acollege. They offer a specific service that should be understood before you jump in. It is up to you to confining that the receiving institution would accept the credit. This same problem could occur between any two colleges just as easily.
Sorry you had a bad experience, but its not straighterlines fault.

Also, this happened to me. I asked an adviser if Straighterline would be accepted at my old community college and they said I would have to be in the military for any ACE credit to be accepted. This happened a few months ago btw. About a few weeks ago, I went back to the college, sat down with one of the Academic Deans, explained him the situation along with my ACE transcript and Penn Foster transcript in hand and he said he would have no problem accepting it. He also stated in the policy that Broward College accepts DETC credits into transfer (which I didn't know) and ACE would be reviewed with the Educational Department but he was going to give me the green light on my Straighterline credits. Broward College accepted my DETC credits and are on the way of accepting my Straighterline credits on ACE. So I suggest sitting down with an academic dean or some one high in the department and explain the situation. I got a "NO!" At first and they shut the doors in my face the first time, the next time came around it was a different result.

I'll still be graduating with my bachelors at TESC, but just wanted my credits to transfer to my old community college. You never know, I might just do a certificate with them down in the road years from now.

Ace brings up a great point....sit down with the registrar or academic dean....stress that you have ace recomended credists.....you may get lucky. Be firm but pleasant.
