SNHU BS in CS Plan
#1
I'm currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Accounting at UMPI and I am kind of toying with the idea of switching back to my initial goal of pursuing a degree in Computer Science as I'm not liking accounting so far (not hating it either). However, graduating within the next 8-10 months is more important than getting a degree in CS, so I might as well stick to UMPI.

I am wondering, if I were to do it and decided to go for a BS in CS at SNHU, with my current credits, what would be the fastest way of doing it (if I did 2-3 courses/term at SNHU)? SDC along with UMPI for the rest of the general education courses (ENG 121, HUM 103)?

My credits (up to BUS 242 at UMPI, will be doing HUM 103 soon): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...edit#gid=0

SNHU BS CS requirements: https://www.snhu.edu/admission/academic-.../V1S14E8tg

Thanks!

The fastest way would probably be with TESU. TESU will waive General Ed + cornerstone if you have a bachelor's degree. Don't know if SNHU waives General Ed if you have a bachelor's degree.

I would suggest doing a spreadsheet for both, then figure out which one you want to do:

Your Summer 1 Session looks like it's all accounting courses. I don't know that you'd be able to get all of those done in 1 session. Some take awhile due to the work involved. I totally get not loving accounting. Been there. Done that. Have you considered switching majors to the BA Business Administration with Management & Leadership Concentration? That would be the fastest and easiest next to the BLS. The BLS is the fastest and easiest since you get to choose so many classes. Looking at the SNHU CS degree it will definitely be more than 8-10 months based on how many courses you need. Your thoughts on taking physics and the math courses required at SNHU? SNHU will definitely cost significantly more if that's a concern. Have you considered TESU or WGU?

I'm not certain why anyone would get a BA in Accounting when they don't really like accounting, and would rather get a BS in CS? That doesn't make any sense to me.

If I needed ANY degree asap, I'd get a UMPI BLS rather than a degree I don't really want.

If I needed A degree now, and planned on getting what I really wanted later, I'd get the UMPI BLS, and then use that as my 30cr of RA towards the TESU BACS.

Thank you for answering, but I don't have a bachelor's degree yet. I am currently pursuing one at UMPI. Wouldn't SNHU accept the Sophia/SDC courses?

I know that summer session 1 is full of accounting courses, however, if I decided to switch to CS, I would only finish the current session and drop out. I don't mind physics or math courses. I want to know if I could save some time by doing the equivalent ones at SDC or somewhere else and determine whether it would be possible to complete this degree in 8-10 months at SNHU.

You're right and while I could explain my thinking behind these actions, I would prefer not to shift the focus on why I am deciding to do this. I just want to know, with my current credits, what would be the absolute fastest way to complete the BS in CS at SNHU.

Thank you all!

Have you contact SNHU about how many and which ACE credits they'll accept? SNHU isn't a popular school on this forum. Lots of people can help you with a degree plan for TESU or WGU for CS.

I think the ideas/suggestions might be to switch into and finish the BLS at UMPI, using that RA degree to waive the general education requirements at TESU for a BACS.

There's the plan that was linked for SNHU, but like ss20ts said, it's not a particularly common school on this forum.

Yes SNHU will accept Sophia and SDC courses, that is in the degree plan I posted earlier in the thread:
https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/SN...egree_Plan

You would want to transfer in as close to 90 credits as possible. Taking 2 courses per 2-month term is considered full-time there. You would have 2 papers or whatever due each Sunday.

I agree that the point was to complete the BLS at UMPI because it can be done in 1 term for many people. If one already has a bachelor's degree they're waived from the general education courses at TESU. They'd typically be waived from them at quite a few colleges - probably most. I definitely wouldn't keep going in accounting if I didn't like it especially with 7-8 or accounting courses next term. That is brutal for pretty much anyone whether or not they love accounting. I took 3 accounting courses each semester for a year and thought my brain was going to fall out of my skull.

Wouldn't it be possible to go straight to TESU without graduating from UMPI?

Thanks. It seems that I can take some courses at SDC to reach 80-90 credits, such as: Introduction to Scripting, Introductory Physics, Discrete Mathematics , Programming Languages, System Analysis and Design, Data Structures and Algorithms, Current and Emerging Trends in Computer Science that are approximately 21 credits, along with ENG 121 and HUM 103 at UMPI totaling 27 credits + 60+ that I already have. I was wondering, how long would these courses listed above take to complete at SDC if pursued full time?

Also, papers or projects as a computer science student?

I applied to SNHU last weekend and I sent them all of my transcripts. I'm currently waiting for them to respond to how many credits will I need to complete the degree. Does TESU waives GE requirements only for degree holders?

Is 7-8 accounting courses/session at UMPI brutal? Although not all are accounting courses, so far I'm doing very well at 1 course/week.

Thank you all!
