Pierpont used to have a transcript issues where you couldn't get a transcript sent after you graduated unless you took a 1 credit course with Pierpont that cost $400+. Not sure if this is still the case today.
Why would you need a transcript?
- If you wanted to do the BAS at UMPI
- If you wanted your General Ed waived for WGU
- If you need a transcript for any other reason

My son took 2 courses with Sophia and refuses to take any more through that provider.
Edited to add that nothing is crossed out on the wiki page.

Based off of my reading of Pierpont catalog, you are correct that it is 12 RA credits now to fulfill "residency requirements," but none of the RA credits have to be done at Pierpont.
Luna CC allows you to complete up to 6 credits for around $160 per 3-credit course ($45/credit+$25/course).
Then you can do Tel Learning for $200/3-credit course.
You could combine three 1-credit courses for a cheap combo: Clackamas CC library science course ($Free 1-credit course), ASU Business Technology Fundamentals course ($25 for 1-credit), and Tel Learning College Readiness course ($67 for 1-credit).
Why didn't your son like Sophia, if you don't mind me asking?
None of this is currently necessary. Plenty of recent Pierpont students have graduated solely with the ASU classs + Sophia and nothing else. If someone else takes over the program from Nancy Parks, that could change at any time. For now, however, there is no need to waste money on TEL Learning or Luna CC unless these are classes that you'll need to continue on to a Bachelor's degree.

This is no longer the case, thankfully! It was an error with their system and they have since corrected it. Students who graduate from Pierpont with only transfer credit can get a transcript as-needed.

So if RA credit is indeed needed, has anyone used TECEP exams to count as RA credit since he will be using those anyway for TESU?

TECEP exams are not graded. The $25 1-credit ASU class is still required because it is graded. It can be completed in a day. Sophia classes are so, so much faster and cheaper than TECEPs. Yes, TECEPs should count as RA credit at Pierpont, but not for the graded credit requirement.
If he wants to use TECEPs anyway, I strongly urge him to give one a try before basing either Pierpont or TESU around them. They're not exactly easy and they're kind of expensive to fail.

@Carnation, TECEPs have been used for other colleges/universities, just like the UEXCELs, these are common (not as much as the challenge exams within the institution or CLEP/DSST though). If your son is looking for RA credit and exams, then TECEPs are very good options for the lower level credit, using them to ladder into TESU and for their RA requirements are perfect! You just need a max of 24 credits through TECEPs and the cornerstone/capstone to meet the 30 required at TESU.
