Plans people here followed to earn Computer Science degrees?
#11
So I was told by an advisor at COSC that systems analysis and design, and Database Management would transfer directly from my local community college and give credit for the corresponding classes, but not as UL.

Are there many self paced UL credits available for IS/CIS/CS?

Also does the capstone at either TESC or COSC count as upper level major/focus credit?

I also don't understand this notion that a year of online courses at a b&m school is somehow better when you're degree is still going to come from an online school. Is that to say that courses from University of Penis are better than courses at COSC or EC because UoP has campuses? I think the term brick and mortar is being applied incorrectly here. COSC and EC are not b&m. TESC is only b&m for nursing.

The capstones do count toward the UL requirements. Adams State University offers systems analysis and design in the self-paced format I think.

I think what you are saying regarding capstone or gened reqs are obvious if the poster looks at the TESC degree plan. My comments were regarding computer courses that fill the CS area of study. I mentioned using the course titles of the AAS computer studies and NS/M plans to know what computer courses transfer into TESC. It's well known that CC courses will no longer be accepted as UL. I still hold fast to my recommendation to see Geezer's posts (or anyone who actually earned a degree in that subject) for anything computer related. I think it's time to move away from this forum. Seems everytime I post it becomes some sort of disagreement.

And I did not refer poster to UofP, but specifically listed TESC as well as mentioned his/her local school as well as offered a link that provides additional RA schools that have computer science programs.
I already mention why I feel a years worth of B&M credits is best for certain students. I also said I was in the minority, on this forum, for feeling the way I do. I stand by my statement. Not all subjects learned/degrees earned are meant to be generalized. Especially when you are being interviewed by persons who tend to get into the weeds, or your job requires you know more than just the basics.

SirTeacherGuy,

If you require any more info on this plan or others, let's discuss through PM. I no longer have the time, or patience, for the back and forth with those who did not request my feedback.

The courses that are accepted for a natural science degree aren't always courses that will be accepted for a computer science degree. Also, the computer studies degree allows for CAP and other computer-related courses that aren't accepted for computer science. New members or old members who have not kept up with the forum may not know that TESC no longer gives UL credits for CC courses. Several times new members have attempted to make plans using the old gen ed requirements. I still think you're misapplying the term b&m, which could confuse people. Online courses at an online-only school like Excelsior are not going to be much different from online courses from a podunk state university. Having a brick and mortar campus is completely irrelevant in this case. It's only a potential positive if someone decides to earn a degree at the b&m school.

This thread was started by SirTeacherGuy who has been a forum participant since 2011 (date of first post). STG mentors students so he would more than likely remain current; or, at the very least know where to look for gened/program reqs. STG requested my feedback on this thread which I have now provided. Given his education, I am sure he would know what a B&M institution is, as well as the difference between online or in-seat courses as noted in my initial response.

@STG, I apologize for my part in this thread going off topic. As stated in prior post, if you would like to converse, it should be directed to me via PM.

I earned my BS in Computer technologies from Excelsior. I had about 90 credits to transfer-in before i enrolled in EC. So all i had to take from EC were General education and capstone. I took Straighterline,Pen foster, ALEKS, language proficiency test to fill-in my Gen education credits. Now i am a graduate student of traditional university in Philadelphia(MS Software Engg).

thanks

This guy is not even close to being up to date. Do you see how many threads he's started in the past week? He also asked for my input, so I'm giving it.
