Adams State Univ. BUS 407 Auditing Review
#1
I just got the final grades back for my auditing class through ASU so I thought I'd better put my thoughts/experiences down before I forget. Smile

BUS 407: Auditing I

Final Grade - 89 (B)

>> Here is the website for the business courses. Business Courses - Distance Learning - Extended Studies - Adams State University Most are offered in several formats so once you find the course you want, you'll need to decide on a format. I signed up for the print based format because it was cheaper. Cost was $495.

>> The time requirement for this course is 1 year from your registration date. The course also has a minimum time requirement of 6 weeks from registration date so be sure to take that into account when signing up. I registered early so that ate up about a week of the time requirement.

>> You will need to purchase the textbook. I got mine (same version) on amazon for $5. No need to buy it through ASU. Wink

>> The course involves 12 chapters (the textbook has 21 chapters. You will only use about 1/2 the book.), 10 lesson assignments, and 4 exams. All the exams are proctored. The lesson assignment format will depend on the course format you choose. For the print based format that I used, the lesson assignments are submitted via postal mail or email to the instructor.

>> Once your registration is received you will receive an email with links to download the study guide. This study guide includes powerpoint screens to read and lists the page numbers and problems to complete for the lesson assignments.

>> They don't give you much direction on completing the lesson assignments. I basically typed them up in word documents and attached them to an email to the professor. The professor was pretty good about grading. A few times he was out of town and it took a little while, but overall, he was very good and helpful to all my questions.

>> There are proctor forms for each exam (total of 4 forms) that must be submitted about 2 weeks ahead of when you want to take the exam. The proctor form must be signed by you and the proctor. I just had my proctor sign it and scan it back to me and then I faxed it to the school. Be sure to plan around when you want to take the exams so your forms are submitted in enough time. ASU was very good about getting the exams on time. There is an exam for lessons 1-4, an exam for lessons 5-8, and an exam for lessons 9-12, and then a final exam.

>> The exams include about 40 multiple choice questions and 4 essay questions. You are given 2.5 hours which is plenty of time to complete the exam. I usually finished with anywhere from an hour to a 1/2 hour left.

>> You are allowed to take the exam before you lesson assignments have been graded. You are encouraged to wait till your first assignment has been graded before submitting the rest.

>> The professor will email you back the grades you receive on your lesson assignments and you will receive your exam grades in the mail with your returned exam. You will also receive a complimentary transcript after you complete the course.

Okay, that's all I can think of!! I'd really recommend these courses if you need business/accounting credits!

Do the exams require a face-to-face proctor or can it be completed online? (e.g. ProctorU)

From what I can tell, the exams have to be taken with a face-to-face proctor. I'm not sure if they offer them online if you sign up for the semester based course (which is almost $1k), but from what I've seen I believe it's all proctored in person.

HTH!

Wanted to add that the Adams State course showed up on my academic evaluation with a letter grade. Not a "CR" like the Penn Foster classes. So just a heads up. It won't factor into GPA or anything since it's a transfer class, but good to know.

Penn Foster is not RA or RA equivalent so it's technically not a regular course transfer but an ACE transfer, which is why their grades are not recognized beyond pass/fail.

Off topic, but curious on experiences of applying to Grad schools with Penn Foster and SL on the transcript. Do they request the original transcripts from the non RA source, and if so do they factor in the actual letter grade earned somehow or just go by the P/F on transcript?

Straighterline is not a college. There is a chance that it could be mistaken as a college, but this could quickly be remedied. Penn Foster is a college. Whether or not a grad school wants transcripts from an NA school depends on that particular grad school. When you fill out an application, Penn Foster should be listed as a college attended if the application makes no distinction between RA and NA schools.
