Options for Texas Government? TAMUC

Has anyone taken Texas Government - GOVT 2306 - at a school other than TAMUC? I applied for a self-paced course at Central Texas College and am just wondering how long it takes. I have vacations and such I need to be able to schedule around. I will be taking the Fall 2 semester off to go on vacation and I'm looking at the CTC dates to try and work it in. Thanks!

In other news, I have struggled getting interviews for jobs I was more than qualified for, like many of you have. I went ahead and updated my resume with an Education section, where I listed my upcoming bachelor's with an expected Spring 2025 completion. I got interviewed and hired for a dream job within three weeks. So, you may go ahead and try it yourself if you have jobs you want to apply for! You know, a resume only has one job - to get you that interview!

Thanks. I see a lot of people recommending WTAMU as an easy course but it's also more expensive at $699. May be worth it, but CTC is $390 if my research is true. Mostly wondering how long these courses are generally taking.

Depends where you're going to get the class from, you can review the classes available at the community college or another university, within their catalog of classes available, it'll show the class dates/times. If it's a semester or an accelerated class or not, etc... What did it say for CTC that was going for $390 or so?

The first Learning Objective is the hardest. The problem with this class is that all of the tests are timed, and the reading material is all over the place. You have to do the writing prompts that were given to you in the pre test before you start the tests at the end of each learning objective. With the writing assignments complete for the learning objective you can search through the reading material "CTRL F" is your friend. Use this to help you find information for the multiple choice questions on the Learning Objectives.
You could also take all of the reading material and copy paste it to one document for easier CTRL F searching.

When I started TX govt I was ready to quit and just take the class at the local community college. After I got past Learning Objective 1, things got better (yes the class layout sucked) and I was able to power my way through it.

If a 40 something year old who took their last college college class in the late 90's could finish this class, you can be successful too.

This is one of the hardest (because of the poor layout) classes for the CBE program at TAMUC. If you can finish this, you CAN finish this degree.

I 100% agree; it also doesn't financially make sense to me for someone to pay about 70% of what a session costs at TAMUC for only one class. At least at TAMUC, you will complete two courses in one session. I know we are all mostly looking to quickly complete coursework, but university classes are meant to be challenging to effectively demonstrate the subject's competency. I took Texas Government in a traditional university format when I was attending another university full time, and it was an entire semester-long course, but I had no issues completing it.

Thanks, and I was determined to plow through and do that at one point . The decision maker for me was that I need to take Fall 2 off for various reasons and pick it up again in the spring. I can knock out Texas Government between semesters at TAMUC. Furthermore, my plan is to try and finish my degree in two semesters. It's an unknown variable, but it this class were to cause me to run over into three, that would make it much more expensive - $1000 vs. the $390 at CTC. It's still a possibility to take it at TAMUC, and I know others have done it, it just makes sense to me to get it done before I pick back up in Spring 1.

They are roughly 8-week time slots, with available options of 9/9-11/1 and 10/15-12/13. We leave for vacation 12/6, and I can't imagine having any trouble completing the 10/15-12/13 session at CTC easily before we leave (I'm knocking a course or two out a week at TAMUC right now.) but I'm wondering how long it has taken others. Fall 1 at TAMUC wraps up 10/18 and Fall 2 runs 10/28-12/13. If I could be confident I could finish my degree with a six week semester before we leave on vacation 12/6 I'd go ahead and register at TAMUC for Fall 2 but was thinking about postponing it.

Mostly, I'm wondering how long the class is taking others to complete. If I can knock it out in a week or so like my other classes, I may even squeeze it in the earlier time slot. I will have two weeks between the end of Fall 1 at TAMUC and the end of the session at CTC to get it done.

Course content: There is NO textbook. Videos, links to articles and open resource information are posted, there is a lot of information from many sources.It takes a lot of time to read all the information and watch all the videos.
Exam format: 3 pre tests and 3 post tests. Multiple choice answers, paragraph answers and essay answers. Tests are timed
Exam content vs course content/practice exams: Most of the information from the pre and post tests can be found in the information posted, but it is a lot to dig through.
Final exam or project: Course Project Analysis. 1200-1500 word paper covering one of the topics of Texas Government and Politics
Time taken on course: Way too much. I may have spent 4 weeks on this course. A week for me is 5 days after work and free time on Saturday and Sunday.
Familiarity with subject before course: I probably knew 40-50% of the material before taking the class.
Pitfalls, high points, things others should know: Just get through the 1st post test. it is all downhill after that. Save the pre tests so you have the paragraph and essay questions for the post tests.
1-10 Difficulty level: I would give this a 9-10 just for the level of frustration. If there was a textbook it would be so much better.

Thank you, your review helps. Right now I'm three classes down in just over a week and a half. Actually, less than a week and half of actual work time because I wasted the first two days working on a class they signed me up for that I didn't need and finally caught. I'm pouring most of my waking hours into this, including down time at work (they know what I'm doing). "If" I were able to stay this course, I could potentially even finish in one semester, but that's probably pushing it. I know there is a deadline to accelerate that will probably hold me up. It's going to depend where I'm at toward the end of this semester, but if I only have a class or two to take in a second semester, it may make sense to include Texas Government at TAMUC rather than another school.

I just got an update from CTC that said the class is $163 per credit hour, or $489.
