SRParnell, I think I understand where the confusion is coming from. I do not think that there is an official essay portion of the US History 1 and 2 CLEP. Your school does indeed have an essay requirement, but it appears to be a locally generated essay.
In short your school, Oklahoma State Univeristy, has some means of factoring their scored essay into the CLEP score to achieve a pass or fail score. No one here will have any idea what your essay requirement will be. I suggest contacting your school testing office and inquiring further about the essay component.
Once you have more information, I'm sure that the forum will be more than willing to help you find information on whatever topics you may need to learn about. That information must come from the school however. OSU even states that you must take the US History CLEP at their school in order to earn credit.
