Need guidance for BOG AAS with transfer to UMPI to carry on to MOAL
#1
Hello Everyone!

I just learned of college hacking and am excited. I have been a restaurant Training General Manager for many years and looking to change careers with getting a BAS and hopefully move on to UMPI MAOL degree. I have a few questions that I need help and guidance with if someone could help please.

1. Since I have 18 years as restaurant general manager who trains other company managers should I pay somewhere to do a portfolio evaluation to obtain some credits? (Running 24/7 business with upwards of 100 employees and 7 million dollars a year in pnl responsibility.)

2. These are the following CC credits and Ace credits I currently have.

My CC credits I hope transfer as I had a few F's from 2005 when I dropped classes online and the school never dropped them where years later I received a bill for all the classes in full and Fs on my transcript  Rolleyes I have already sent my CC transcript to Pierpont via Parchment.

CC potential transfer

I would appreciate any information, advice, guidance, etc.

Do I currently have enough to apply and graduate for the BOG AAS from Pierpont??

Thank You!

You have more than enough credits for Pierpont - I would suggest simply apply and send them your college transcripts + your Credly transcript, and request an area of emphasis in Information Systems. Once you have your Pierpont BOG AAS, apply to UMPI.

The Google credits give you the technical credits that you need for the UMPI BAS, apply for the BLS and once you are admitted, request a change to the BAS. For UMPI, use Sophia to fill in any missing general education or other classes - for example, you want to do a foreign language and your science plus lab. You need to complete a minimum of 10 classes at UMPI.

Welcome to the board, I replied back to your inquiry about graduating the Pierpont BOG AAS along with the UMPI BAS.  Anyways, for your situation, you may want to review this thread post reply from yesterday, I would recommend taking some time to review posts, threads, wiki, here's the post: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...#pid420040

Basically, in your scenario, I recommend going for UMPI BAS MIS & PM Minor (or even add the Management minor), and also the 4 classes towards the MAOL, here's a spreadsheet from two years ago, there is just one minor difference, the "business communication" course: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...#pid365771

Remaining Gen Ed Example:
Sophia.org Critical Thinking - 2D ENG 211 Creative Writing or ART 108 Graphic Design
Sophia.org Art History I/II - 2E ENG 151 Intro to Lit or HUM 184 Disciplinary Relationships
Sophia.org Ancient Greek/Intro to Ethics - 4C PHI 152 Introduction to Ethics or SWK 202 Ethics in the Helping Profession
Sophia.org French I - 5C FRE 101 Elementary French I or SPA 101 Elementary Spanish

MIS Minor Requirements:
Sophia.org Project Management - BUS 141 Introduction to Project Management w/Microsoft Projects
UMPI BUS 200 Intermediate Business Computing
Study.com BUS 303 Management Information Systems - BUS 244 Management Information Systems
Google Data Analytics Certificate - BUS 245: Programming for Managers
UMPI BUS 345: Database Management Systems
**UMPI BUS 440 Business Analytics

PM Minor Requirements:
Study.com BUS 304 - Leading Organizational Change - BUS 240 Change Management
UMPI BUS 343 Project Risk & Cost Management
Google Project Management Certificate - BUS 400: Project Management Applications
UMPI BUS 401: Advanced Project Management Applications II
Study.com BUS 314 Advanced Operations Management - BUS 415 Operations Management
**UMPI BUS 469 Strategic Professional Communication

Remaining Electives Requirements:
**UMPI BUS 335 Organizational Behavior
**UMPI BUS 353 Legal & Ethical Issues in Business
**Classes exempt/transferrable into MAOL later

BJ thank you for the detailed response.

Can you verify that these grade F's wont hurt my gpa or graduation requirements into pierpont?

I found this policy #15 and I believe I will be ok? I just need reassurance. https://www.pierpont.edu/wp-content/uplo...OG_P15.pdf

I have already transferred all of my credits to Pierpont as I am currently waiting for response from applying and all.

Thanks!

People always get the internal and external GPA confused, don't look at that internal document, you're not taking anything at Pierpont. They only use your external GPA for logging/reference purposes as the system requires a GPA of some sort. You just need one graded credit (technically 12 RA credits too, but they are not enforcing that rule). And in regards to the portfolio inquiry, skip it... it'll be more work than all 90 credits from Sohpia.org and your alternative credits combined, probably more expensive as well, you can just email your assigned academic advisor and they can probably check your work experience for elective credit if any...

I think you've got most if not all you need for the degree at Sophia.org for the BOG, I would do more Sophia.org to get the max 90+ credits transferred into the UMPI BAS/BLS (you don't have to send anything to Pierpont anymore), then you can use my Study.com coupon code and lastly work on the remaining courses before you complete the UMPI residency credits.  You get 25% off the first month: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...#pid412517

2 time UMPI YourPace alumna here. I've also spent many years working restaurants. My recommendation is not for the BAS but the BABA with Management and Leadership Concentration because this will help you much more in your career to become a General Manager. The BAS is a technical degree, but you're not in a technical position. It will contain courses which are useful as a restaurant manager whereas a class on database management may not be helpful to you. You'd also probably be able to fly through many of the business courses because of your experience.

Forget the portfolio credits at UMPI. They are FAR more work than a YourPace class. Portfolio credits require 3-5 papers, letters from managers, and other documentation. And you're not guaranteed the credits. You also pay per credit whether or not you receive credit. YourPace is a flat fee tuition so you pay the same if you complete 3 courses per term or 150 courses per term.

With the BABA, you'll be required to take some of the courses which will be waived in the MAOL. The BAS isn't designed that way.

Thank you for the advice. My thing is I am done with restaurants   I have accomplished a-lot from training managers and district managers to being a district manager proxy to being the number one store in the country for mobile order and pay launch for starbucks and presenting how we did it to a group of 500 peers and direct reports. My current credits are mainly towards tech sector. I hope to have a career change. I would not mind going to HR, training and development manager, heck even a principal for a local school district. I feel the skills and time management as well as ability to be flexible around the clock and being able to be a disruptor by thinking outside of the box can take anyone far in other fields. Just need to lay out my path to do so.

Thank you for the feedback and advice. This has been a bit overwhelming trying to find the easiest/fastest route to the bachelors which will lead into maol with the 4 classes to take into the program from undergrad.
