So, it's $200 for graduate level, but you can choose undergrad if you want - still $200. You have to pay an application fee of $50. The other course is showing at full cost $3300 (grad) so I didn't select it.
To do the certificate, you would have to bring in 2 from social science taken 2015 or newer, my previous HES course in Psychology is too old (boo) but I probably will not decide just yet. I am planning to grab the last 2 this fall (assuming I don't hate poetry too much) and decide after that. EVEN IF I decide to get a cert, I'll likely still grab a 4th English so I can add that to my teaching credential... but now we're getting in to some big money for a "nice to have."
It's worth pointing out that the Whitman summer course does NOT HAVE TEXTBOOKS. All of the content is provided via pdf. That's a huge bonus, since my previous book lists for HES courses has been heavy and expensive.
Is it the same course with the same work expectations for the UL and grad versions of this course? Just curious as my son may need an UL English course? He has an associate degree and UL English classes which include writing intensive classes, but they still are saying they will require that he takes a LL English Comp 2 course for his bachelor degree (Excelsior). Does anyone know of any UL Ethics or English comp equivalent courses, as it seems silly to take a LL Eng comp course at this point in his degree process. Or how hard are the StraigherLine or other exams for Eng Comp2? He has reading and writing disabilities (Dyslexia & Dysgraphia spectrums) but has done well in his online classes in English, but he struggles in retaining details so I'm not sure how he'd do with the exams. Are the Eng comp 2 exams proctored? Or would they be open book?
In the courses that I've taken before, there have been additional writing requirements for grad students, I expect the same.
This couse for sure will not count as Comp 2. I would suggest starting a new thread and asking to the group, your question will get lost in this thread since it will probably only be seen by a few people unless you start a new question.
Separately, Harvard does not let high school students enroll in summer sessions unless it's specifically their secondary program. That doesn't apply to fall/spring. You didn't say that your son was in high school, just throwing that in there.

you can double check with TESU, however, in the past, if you took a graduate level course, it would count as undergrad UL. Still, no one here has used these courses for that- so get it preapproved if it's a deal breaker.

I went ahead and sent TESU an email of classes that I had signed up for so they could add them to my eval. The Harvard ones they seemed perplexed by at first but then I got this.
Hello Derrick,
I have confirmed with the Dean’s office that the Harvard ENGL S-300 - Poetry in America for Teachers: The City from Whitman to Hip Hop will transfer in as ENG-399 Special Topics, which will satisfy Free elective credits. As I mentioned in my previous email, I do encourage you to make sure you will receive college credit for this course. If you confirm this, I can approve and plan this onto your evaluation so you know what requirement it will satisfy.
As a member of the Office of Academic Advising, I look forward to working closely with you in order to ensure your continued success. Should you need additional support, inquiries may be sent via email to academicadvising@tesu.edu (please note your degree program in the subject line). In addition to this service, I encourage you to schedule an advising appointment. During these personalized meetings, you will receive comprehensive counseling which will enrich your academic experience.
Sincerely,
Brian Muhlberger, M.Ed.

Interesting that they DIDN'T give it an EDU prefix. They might count for AOS for LS or English, then. I'm trying to convince my newly graduated daughter (Cal, English Lit, see my new avatar!) who wants to be a HS English teacher that she ought to try and get at least a few of these in next year. She's taking it off to prior to taking the teacher's cert program.

It is taught from the ENG department and has an ENG prefix. You don't have to be a teacher to take it- no reason it would get EDU in transfer.
Odd that it's being placed in BSLION's free electives - gen eds already full? Also, in your (BSLION) email to TESU, did you tell them you were taking for undergrad or graduate credit? I'm interested in knowing if that mattered.

No I didn’t differentiate between graduate and undergraduate. They were more concerned with making sure that I signed up with the “for credit” version of the course. I responded to that email with a screenshot of my Harvard course schedule which states that it’s undergraduate. I’ll update you guys if they say it makes a difference.
Also, yes my general education electives are full but I haven’t been stressing over where they’ve put my classes yet. I’ve just been making sure they add them on so far.

So, undergrad is coming in as UL. That's good to know. I'm sooo tempted to encourage you to take it for grad credit... grad credit is SO EXPENSIVE, this is really really cheap. If TESU is giving you UL either way, and I were in your shoes, I'd probably do UL just because it's got other potential later to count in some way on your master's - not that many master's programs allow for transfer credit.... but still, I feel like there are more options for you if you bumped it up. LOL, sorry, not trying to be pushy.

I actually asked a Harvard enrollment coach about taking graduate level courses while working on my bachelor's, and he said it would not count towards one of their graduate programs unless you took it after the conferral date of your bachelor's.
Otherwise I definitely agree with the sentiment, graduate courses are pricy!
Do we have a working list of grad schools that take transfer credits?

I believe that Empire State College will accept up to 9 credits transferred from regionally accredited colleges/universities: https://www.esc.edu/graduate-studies/transfer-credit/

Yeah I looked into having it changed from undergraduate to graduate but it stated in the course description you had to already have completed a degree which I have not. I'd have definitely taken the advice otherwise, I'll take any good info I can get lol.

Hey! How is everyone doing with this class? I've been cranking out a bunch of classes this summer and I just have been remiss in chatting here about the class. Anyway, I just finished the final paper and submitted it. Wednesday is the exam and I have some studying to do. I have enjoyed the class and currently sit at 96%. How is everyone else doing?
Also, registration is open for the fall classes and I have registered.

$450 for both. 8 graduate credits. Great deal.
