For everyone's information, a student reported success in transferring multiple LawShelf courses to University of Maryland Global Campus.

If anyone has any similar success (or failures, for that matter) using LS courses, please let me know as we're trying to build a list of schools that we know will take LS courses.

Excelsior says they'll take LS courses (as we knew they would) but we're still working on getting an equivalency chart. We're also in discussions with TESU, COSC and some others, but these things take time. In the interim, if anyone knows of a successful transfer or if you're running into any issues (that we might be able to help with), please let me know.

We got the Excelsior equivalency chart. The number of credits and levels are all same as NCCRS. Most courses are general electives, but also a number of business electives, two social sciences and one health science elective. Plus, our Contracts course counts as Excelsior's Contract Law course.

Six of your courses are evaluated as graduate-level by NCCRS, and Excelsior's equivalency chart doesn't show any graduate-level equivalencies. Were they only evaluating the courses for possible transfer into an undergraduate program? Since master's programs don't have room for free electives, and Excelsior doesn't offer a legal studies degree program, I would expect that none of the courses would be deemed suitable for any of their existing master's programs. I'm just curious as to whether they even considered evaluating the courses for graduate transfer.

The courses were recommended for credit "In the upper division baccalaureate degree category OR graduate degree category."

That's awesome! Even as just electives, cheap UL electives can be difficult to find.

All graduate level LawShelf courses are also undergrad UL credit recommendations, and that's what Excelsior said that would accept them as. We did not discuss whether they would also transfer into Masters' level programs, though we'd be happy to do so if it's relevant for a student.

Excelsior responded to me by email stating that they would honor NCCRS' graduate credit recommendation, so the question would be whether those courses fit into one of their master's programs.

Has anyone finished one of the graduate level Law Shelf courses yet? If so, how did it go?

I spoke to a friend of mine who teaches at a local law school, and was previously the Dean at the same law school... which is a school that accepts NCCRS credits. I specifically asked if he thought the school might accept these graduate-level credits towards a JD degree. He said they probably would. His thought was that even if they were not the first to accept them, some other law school would, which would open the flood gates of the mid-level law schools having to accept them.

With that said, if anyone plans to attend law school, I would not recommend trying these courses until you have actually matriculated because of the ABA rules about credits applying towards the degree. The exception to that might be some of the California law schools that are not ABA accredited. What would be even better is if NCCRS got Northwestern California University School of Law ($4k annual tuition) in their directory... that would be such an amazing and hard-to-beat deal for a JD!

Did anyone guinea pig these for TESU's Liberal Studies degree? I sent an email to academic advising a few days ago but I haven't heard back yet. I'm thinking their classes might be considered business electives and wouldn't work for a BALS.

For TESU, they have an articulation agreement but their equivalency/transfer list hasn't been updated.  I would estimate and guess the courses would come in similar to what they do with DeVry, Excelsior and Purdue Global.  TESU, TROY, UMGC (basically, 3 of 6 partners) do not have an updated list yet... Link: https://lawshelf.com/partnersview

Purdue Global awards graduate-level credits for the LawShelf courses that have been evaluated as graduate level. Their MS in Legal Studies has two tracks. The research track has room for 15 quarter hours in electives, and the comprehensive exam track has room for 20 quarter hours in electives. Each graduate-level LawShelf course comes over as 5 quarter hours.

We have not added transfer credit for the recommendations from LawShelf Educational Media because they are not on the Thomas Edison State University Approved Education List https://www.tesu.edu/academics/catalog/p...-directory.

Education al Providers that offer courses with ACE/NCCRS credit recommendations that are not on the TESU approved list will be notified by us of their ability to apply. Should the provider be added to the Thomas Edison State University Approved Educational Provider List, we will add the credit to your record in accordance with TESU transfer credit policies.

This process can take up to 8 weeks. We will notify you of the outcome when it is completed.
