Human Biology + Lab
#1
Hi everyone, I have been pretty diligent and knocking out Sophia classes to get into UMPI. I have a question though because I just saw something on a FB page and wanted to know if anyone knows this for sure.

A person posted that Jessica from UMPI (and I hear her name a lot so I think it's an advisor) just gave a person the answer that the Human Biology and lab do NOT transfer for the 3E requirement. Does anyone know about this and if there is an alternative. I actually already completed this with thinking that it would transfer. I am so bummed.

I was only down to finishing Critical thinking, American Government and Spanish and then transferring. Now I might need another science + lab? Not sure. Who would I actually talk to at UMPI? I only just applied and no advisor is assigned yet. I figured I would be able to go in October so start the process now.

Any advice is appreciated!!!!

Do NOT take science at UMPI.

If Human Biology + Lab both from Sophia no longer transfer, that's weird. There are other courses that haven't transferred for 3E, like Anatomy and Physiology, but Human Biology + Human Biology lab have been fine.

Can you share the exact wording of the post? It's possible that someone got confused. Like maybe they took Human Biology + A&P lab by accident or something similar.

Here are the screenshots of the convo

Yeah, I don't want to take science at UMPI either. And I did notice that Human Bio Lab is still on the list of transfer equiv on the UMPI site.

How strange! I hope it's just a mistake/glitch due to the switch to Brightspace.

There are other options, but they're more difficult/expensive than Sophia. Probably easier than UMPI, though.

I'd say that Chem w/Lab would be another inexpensive option, but who knows if that will change as well?!

Right. I'm wondering if I should transfer everything over to UMPI and then see what they say. Can I put off attending for a term to finish anything that I might be able to before?  I applied for the October start but honestly not sure how long the process is? I just got my info for the maine school system and a couple enrollment counselors (which I know they are 3rd party so not really thinking they can help) have called.

not sure. this was a bummer for me.

This has been my fear since starting this journey. I've completed 15 Sophia courses this summer with human biology and the lab being part of that. I found them to be more time-consuming than most other courses. It appears it was a waste of time and I won't receive credit, which really sucks. With the move to Brighspace, I will be curious how many other courses don't transfer in.

You can delay starting if you need to finish stuff. But I don't know what happens if you transfer in Human Biology + Lab now, and it works, but start in a session or two when it does not (assuming that's what's going on).

Well, if they let me start in October and they accept the hum bio + lab then I think I better just start in October....maybe I can request to do something later or just deal with it. I need to get my spanish done

Me too...I've finished about the same...and I'm worried. I feel anxiety right now over this. I would hate to have the rug pulled out from under me.

I'm wondering if the SDC bio/lab will transfer?  I'm currently enrolled in the Sophia lab and now I don't know if I should just finish it up or drop it.  I'm hoping it's all just a miscommunication or glitch.

When you applied did you not send in your transcripts of the classes you have taken so far?  Or are you going send them all at once?  I"m trying to decide if I should just go ahead and apply now for Fall 2.
