How in the world do you people retain all those study questions?

I write down the cards I don't know in my own words, then re-write them in a word processor document. I add notes from reading additional related material from a textbook or encyclopedia. It's all about articulation -- using the info in varied ways makes it stick better. I think it also improves ability to apply what you learn, which many tests are looking for and certainly helps when you're taking multiple related tests.

How much you absorb for a given test may also be dependent on what grade you're shooting for. If you're taking an exam that provides a letter grade (e.g. DANTES, ECE), then it may be worth studying EVERYTHING if you're after an A. If it's a pass/fail scenario (CLEP), there will be no difference in grade no matter how high the score is-- in which case you can use other tools (e.g. Peterson's tests) to assess your knowledge against a passing baseline and work to that level.

I didn't realize DSSTs gave letter grades? For some reason I thought they were like CLEPS -- pass/fail?!

How do you accomplish that? I've been copying and pasting, and it takes too long.

Well I go though them casually for a week then after I have a decent grasp on the cards I go though them and any question that I miss I take nokes on. Study the notes and flip though the cards then repeat. Usually after once or twice on taking notes I have it in my brain pretty solidly.
