FEMA- how to get the credits...
#1
Okay so, how would I take a class with FEMA, are some of them free, does TESC take FEMA credits? I would greatly appreciate any advice you have and a list of what classes you took and anything and everything else you know about them. (are they even worth my time?)

Thanks!!!

Go to the FEMA independent study website here . The courses are done online, at home, at your own pace. Download the final exam and complete that online and submit it. You will hear back from FEMA by email in less than a day if you passed. Once you complete the number of FEMA's that you need to have-- request FEMA to send the transcript to TESC. So they are free for TESC but not other schools such as EC. Some other schools require a third party to transcribe the courses before they will give you credit. So if you are planning on being a TESC student they are definitely worth it to fill Free Electives courses. You can not use them anywhere else such as Gen Ed requirements etc. unless you are pursuing a degree in Homeland Security etc. Do a search on here for FEMA threads with tons of info. But this should help you get a start Smile

Okay thanks! I am so glad I asked. But how long will they keep a record of my credits? I won't be enrolling with TESC for some time.

Just do as many as you need and then send a transcript to TESC. You don't need to be enrolled. They will set up a credit bank for you for free. I sent all of my CLEPs and DSSTs to them without ever contacting them. When I enrolled they just pulled up my file. I don't know if you can set up a account in advance, I never even set one up, but it might be something you want to check into. The best thing about FEMAs is that everything is free, the courses, the transcripts, all free.

I'll check with TESC on their policy. I sent my credits to them for a year and half before I enrolled. They still had them.

This is kind off subject, but I've had a little trouble with TESC receiving DSST transcripts. They haven't gotten 5 DSST exams yet. I resent the transcripts (cost me $30), and I still don't know if they have received it yet. There is usually a 30 day grace period where DSST will send a second transcript if the first one wasn't received, but I was past that by the time I found out. ALWAYS check that your college has received the transcripts within the 30 day period. It will save you time and money.

I contacted them and was told that they will keep your credits on file for 6 months for free. I think they also have a credit bank, but you might have to pay for that. I just sent my test results straight to TESC, I didn't have to open an account or anything like that. Saves $20 Smile (more, considering that I have taken both CLEPs and DSSTs)!

Excelsior requires you to get the FEMA courses on a
Transcript from Fredrick Community College for a
Modest fee of 70$ a credit. Apparently you can
Get them transcribed at Clackamus Community
College for less. If you ever plan to enroll at Excelsior
they pretty well want a Fredrick transcript.
