Excelsior Upper Level Credits
#1
For a Liberal Arts Bachelors I understand the 2 depths:  12 credits in each with at least 3 being UL. So these required 6 UL credits + 3 for Capstone = 9 UL.  Can the remaining 21 UL credits be in anything?

Thank you for the list!

I'm still unsure what the remaining 21 UL credits should be in.  All Liberal Arts subjects? Only those in the 2 depth subjects?

I contacted Excelsior via email and received the:  Pay to apply, enroll, sign up for the Info Lit class then we will help you.

Yes and No.  Yes, the Excelsior Liberal Arts Bachelors allows 2 depths, 12 credits each, 3 being UL each depth and the UL capstone, so that will mean 9 UL credits from there alone.  Yes & No, the 21 UL that remains can't be from anything, you want to review what it says in the academic evaluation.

Let's grab this random evaluation and review it: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/attachm...p?aid=3043

For the LAB-The degree requires Arts & Science 60 credits and an Applied Professional or Additional Arts & Sciences 60.
It depends what the student has completed already for the LL/UL requirements.  Hopefully the following makes sense...

If they've done 2 depths in arts/sciences and has their LL/UL requirements done for the Arts & Sciences, YES - the remainder can be anything.  If they've done 2 depths in a non arts & sciences area, then NO - the remainder can't be anything, it should contain enough Arts & Sciences to cover all the requirements.

I personally can't figure out what in the heck they require, once they got rid of their online degree plans, I was completely lost. Not sure why they felt the need to make it more complicated than it already was...

Thanks!  I feel like it's a puzzle and I'm slowly figuring it out with each small piece.  So if the 2 depths were: CJ & Psychology: 12 credits each with at least 3 UL each.  Then the remaining 21 UL credits can be in ANYTHING as long as the 60 Arts & Sciences credits are fulfilled. Even if the 54 A & S credits are lower level.
Is that right?

It's hard to imagine that you only need 9cr of UL in the major, that doesn't match anything else anyone does. I swear, their requirements get harder to figure out every year!

So the 12 credit depth requirement is no longer accurate. From the catalog:

Every student in the BA in Liberal Arts or BS in Liberal Arts programs is required to demonstrate expertise by certifying depth of knowledge in at least two different disciplines or thematic areas of study. The depth requirement ensures exposure to a variety of subject areas. It also allows students to explore thematic areas of study that connect disciplines in a meaningful way. In each depth, students must complete 15 credits, with a minimum of 6 credits at the upper level. For the BAL degree, both depths must be within the arts and sciences; for the BSL, one may be earned in an applied professional area, like business or education.
.
So this puts the UL in the 2 depths + Capstone at 15 cr which makes more sense.

Of course, now the biggest unknown is exactly what will be accepted in each depth. For ex-in CJ, Forensic Science from Study is not listed on the transfer list. I take that to mean it cannot be used for one of the 5 depth classes. If it COULD be used and if TEEX Death Investigation COULD be used that would take care of that depth. Sadly, a Liberal Arts degree from Excelsior doesn't seem to be anyone's choice and, without being enrolled, I have no way of knowing if that would work. Sad

No one expects a "Liberal Arts" degree to know anything... let's be real! Big Grin  It's a fancy general studies degree. Wink
