Ok I took english comp 2 at SL and it took me a bit over 2 weeks to finish. It was a lot of papers but most of them only are 2 pages long which is not bad just double space. The first week I knocked out all of the quizzes I tried to actually read the frankenstein book but the journal entries were to whiny for me so I just used cliff notes. The quizzes are simple. The 2nd week I handed in rough drafts and they were reviewed the next day. The writing assignments are not too bad they provided sample papers that I used as template to give me a better idea what to write.
I honestly liked english comp 2 at SL compared to thomas edison. I originally took EC2 at my local college and got a D because I missed to many days and that caused many points to be taken off my final grade but I wrote A and B level papers. I liked how it was just like my old college class every assignment had a different theme while the EC2 class at thomas edison was all about writing a research paper which caused me to drop it. Even though it was a lot to write I am glad I took this class because it got me ready to think outside the box and take on full length college classes at thomas edison which I am attending now. I previously tried the online classes at colorado technical university and thomas edison but since noone was around and never really felt the repercussion if I missed an assignment I flunked out a lot of classes which caused me to withdraw myself.
This is my last try for my Bachelors and retrying online classes. I started my journey with EC2 from SL since it was real cheap to figure out if I can cut it with online classes. After I was done with the class it gave me the confidence and drive I needed to resume working on my degree. So far I completed my A.A.S in Computer Studies with the help of SL classes. Currently working toward my BA Computer Science est grad date 6/14.

I personally do not like Penn foster was going to take a C# and Visual Basic programming class which they offered as single credited courses. Month after I went to enroll they removed the classes "because they weren't popular" but they kept java programming which after many inquiries found out its not even ACE accredited even though they have it listed as such. They're reply was Java programming has to many rapid changed to keep updating the course so we will not have it evaluated for ACE credit. From the way it looks they list classes that may or may not be ACE approved anymore. If thats not shady I don't know what is.

What do you mean by listing classes that may or may not be ACE approved? On the ACE website, you have to click on the course to see if its approval has expired. Penn Foster will keep offering courses whether or not they have ACE approval because those courses count toward PF degrees/certificates, and they transfer to schools that accept DETC credits.

if you want to know if a course is ACE approves all you have to do is go here
ACE CREDIT | The National Guide to College Credit for Workforce Training
it not only tells you if a course is currently approved, but also if an "out of date" course ever had approval
and Penn foster's site clearly states
Computer Information Systems Assoc. Degree-Accredited at Penn Foster
Quote:College Credit Recommendations
The American Council on Education's College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT)
has evaluated and recommended college credit for
MANY
Penn Foster College courses. The American Council on Education, the major coordinating body for all the nation's higher education institutions, seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and to influence public policy through advocacy, research, and program initiatives. For more information, visit the ACE CREDIT website.
notice it says MANY, not ALL
so there is no misrepresentation there
also from the same link
Quote:Accreditation
You can be confident in the credibility of our school. Penn Foster College is nationally accredited. This prestigious form of accreditation means that Penn Foster has met the high standards required by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC). We operate with the highest level of integrity, so our graduates can benefit from an accredited education. Employers are more likely to hire and accept graduates of accredited schools.
so ACE is not the only credentialing service
Penn Foster also offers degrees accredited by DETC
so any course you take at Penn Foster should transfer to any of these schools
DETC

Well to your post I originally did check on there website and many of there classes weren't listed as currently approved under ACE. A good majority were expired. Thats why I started with the inquiries at PF. DETC? that won't mean much if you are trying to transfer to a regionally accredited school. I'm not bad mouthing the school, I never took a course there. Just sharing how I did not like that they do not bother to update there courses.
It does state the status of each class on the ACE website but its not openly stated on the PF website.
Also, you guys state "just go to ACE website to figure out whats what" you'd be surprised but many people don't know much about ACE or how accreditation works. For the people in the know they know what to look for and be would be smart enough to check ACE for the courses approved and etc. But the average person who doesn't know much about accreditation or how ACE works would read the schools is accredited and think they're good to go. Those are the same people that go to nationally accredited schools not knowing any better and find out regionally accredited school do not honor them when comes to transfer or to start a Masters program.
So while it may seem that I'm stating Penn Foster is a terrible school or what have you. I think there prices are reasonable and it seems like they may have a good program. My comment was based towards the individual classes and the realization that one of them is not ACE approved meaning if I take it then more then likely the school I'm transferring to would not accept it. I did notice other classes were expired but I don't know if they still in there degree program. I just wanted to share that you need to mindful and do your research before paying for a class because theres always a chance that they may not be accepted by the school you want to transfer too.

As stated above, ACE will list courses that were approved in the past as well as current courses because some people might have taken a course when it was approved making it still good for credit. That doesn't have anything to do with PF. ACE approval costs money, and courses have to be reevaluated every few years. My guess is that PF didn't want to pay for the approval of courses that had low demand. Some of the courses have also been discontinued.

Could you please send me the PF link points to this course? I am not able to see this course under English Composition.
