Hi all! I just wanted to see if anyone has a degree plan that really maximizes the course offerings at Shmoop? My wife is thinking about getting an English degree and she works a crazy schedule/is essentially always on call, so the Shmoop type non-scheduled courses are ideal. She can also use Study.com, but the price point of Shmoop makes it win out as well.
The things to be aware of: 1) You can only take 90cr (30 courses) at Shmoop, so don't take more than that (unless you're just really enjoying it); 2) Although English Lit and American Lit are both available elsewhere, you need to take one as a CLEP exam, because you need 2 semesters of it (Survey of Lit I & II) and that's the only way I know of to get that 2nd semester (all the other courses are a 1 semester 3cr course).
I did not include cost-cutting measures like using Modern States to get free CLEP exams (and free study materials) but that's a good option for her as well.

Thank you for the info! I’ve never heard of shmoop?
Not sure I understand your questions. Shmoop is a company that provides courses that are ACE approved for college credit. You pay $88/mo for unlimited courses. It sounds like a great deal, but much has been written about how they are NOT easy courses. You have to read all their material and even then they are very difficult to pass. I personally would not use them for the LL courses that can be found elsewhere, even for the cost. However for an English degree like I am pursuing, it would not be possible without Shmoop because of cost. So I put up with it. You may just want to go poke around on their site or do some searches here. There are lots of threads on the forum here about Shmoop.
