I usually go with the Official Guide (for the % breakdown and practice Qs), REA, and either CP's Learning Network or IC. Sometimes, if I want something besides the REA book, I'll look for Idiots or Dummies Guides, or some "comprehensive" book at the library. High school textbooks work very well too.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.
Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.
Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.
Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.
Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Most of what CollegePlus does, happens in the beginning of working with them: When you just start up, (CollegePlus prep), they send you a bunch of materials to get you started on distance learning (i.e. speed reading, memory course, advanced writing, life purpose planning, logic course), and you start up with a prep group, meeting about once a week (webinar), and discussing what your learning, then start with the first tests (mine were literature and composition with essay).
A little further in, they help you go through what degree would be the best type for you, and once you figure that out, you mostly study, and contact a coach every two weeks, to help you progress, and make goals.
Also, they provide the Learning Network, a VERY good online program with flashcard sets for most of the CLEPs. It's similar to IC, but remembers where you were when you left off, and has helpful videos for some topics.
To go with this, they do have student forums, similar to these IC DegreeForums.

CollegePlus is a Christian organization and is quite popular in the homeschool circle; therefore, it's most helpful to homeschool students and anyone who hasn't heard of IC and testing out. It introduced me to this wonderful option of distance learning and was a Godsend, as we really had no idea what I was going to do for a cheap, accredited college degree. I agree that, now that I've been shown the way, I can now help my younger siblings earn their degrees like I did, with out CP's help. BUT, they were a true blessing sent when I needed it!

Or did you mean like plus $1,000... As in, it's an extra several thousand dollars that isn't (usually) needed. They're taking a degree that would of cost 10-12K, and throwing on an extra 3-5K (depending on what you get and how long you use them).
Granted, even with the extra money, it's far cheaper then other college alternatives.
