Cheap NCCRS Credits from NOCTI

I know this was brought up before, but we couldn't find much information. I believe I mostly understand the process now. NOCTI's website says that you have to pass a multiple choice assessment in order to earn NCCRS credits. To me, that sounds like one does not have to take the performance assessments. The assessments fall under two categories: Job Ready and Pathway. The online assessments are $20 or less. Assessments require a proctor. What I don't know yet is if one has to take the pre-test and post-test. Currently, their NCCRS page is not working.

I wrote to them in February about proctored tests. This is the answer,"We currently do not allow our assessments to be administered with ProctorU. However, we are looking into it and hope to have a decision by the end of the month. Once we have a decision, someone from NOCTI will be in touch to let you know if this is a possibility. "

Since the Big 3 accept NCCRS credits, you don't need to have the NOCTI courses transcribed by Excelsior. The Big 3 will just confirm that NOCTI is current with NCCRS since NCCRS does not produce transcripts.

Okay, I guess it works similar to the Saylor NCCRS courses then. Really excited! I'd definitely be looking into this. Thanks for posting it up!

Do you know what's the current status regarding this? Cause if ProctorU is able to do it, it'd be cheaper than other CBEs, even if you factor in ProctorU's testing fee.

I'm a little confused over the pricing pdf.

Like you said Sanatone it doesn't mention at all which you require.

My bet is the Job Ready section is split up to have some kind of database where companies can check your performance on the related material, hence the performance test and the small print 'ratings entered online'.
I'm curious what the difference is between Job Ready and Pathways. Is one setup specifically for credit assessment and one isn't or?

I was hoping to find out more information from the NCCRS website. Many of the programs are only offered under the Job Ready section. Even if you have to take the pre-test and post-test, it'll still be cheaper than taking a DSST or CLEP. I'm hoping the performance assessment can be skipped. Unless you can find a free proctor, you'll most likely be paying the same testing fee as you would for DSST/CLEP, but the test itself will be cheaper. In-person proctoring fees are usually around the same price as ProctorU fees.

Now that I've taken a closer look, I don't think there is any overlap between the Pathway and Job Ready subjects. This is the most detail NOCTI gives on earning credits.

Students must meet a 70% benchmark on an approved
NOCTI multiple-choice assessment to be eligible for the

The performance assessments aren't multiple choice tests, so I don't think they're required. The confusing part is that it says "an approved NOCTI multiple-choice assessment." It sounds like you only have to take one, but which one? My guess is that the post-test is required. Maybe I'll contact NOCTI during the week.

If you look at the website it seems they can give additional credit if you complete the performance exam 'and' a written exam for some of the topics. For example Computer programming:

Credit recommendation: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Computer Programming, Computer Science, or Computer Information Systems (11/13). NOTE: An additional 1-2 credits may be awarded based on successful completion of the Performance Component when given in conjunction with the written proficiency examination.

Something else to note. They have 2 units listed there for Upper level credit. One for Human Resources and another for Culinary. Sadly nothing for any other topics so far. UL in computer oriented areas would have been a great boon for me.

If you're attending COSC or Excelsior, then the NCCRS UL/LL recommendations matter. If you're attending TESC, then they don't.
