Capitol Technology University PhD in Cyberpsychology

I looked up articles people published at CapTech and many are published in fairly predatory journals with a questionable peer review process. That is not to say people dont do good work, but unless you publish in credible journals those publications wont carry weight.

I've also been looking into journals with already published articles, and it's disheartening (for both CapTech but also just in general) how many journals expect you to pay $1k+ to publish. I can understand the need for processing fees, but I likely wouldn't go with a journal that charges fees, even if some of the larger ones seem to have them. Larger doesn't always mean higher quality.

Unfortunately that is pretty common. Even the best publishers do this. Even so, CapTech tends to publish in fairly low-impact journals despite it costing the same as high-impact journals. That doest mean we wont see exceptions and may see some solid publications, but the trend was for ones that would not have been accepted in my grad school.

Open access and predatory journals require a fee. Some open access journals are high impact, but most high impact journals are not open source. You shouldn't be paying anything to publish unless you really want the public to have free access to your article. Some journals have a mix of open access and articles that can only be viewed with a subscription or fee.

It's an online program. You can either enroll in full-time hours or part-time hours. It doesn't change the research focus of the PhD. I attended CapTech for two semesters. I've also been in practitioner programs that aren't focused on research.

I will say that I wouldn't be surprised if CapTech has low standards for journals and doesn't follow what they publish on their website. They're also quite lenient in what they consider to be related transfer credits.

The advisor/chair I was appointed was neither a psychologist nor psychiatrist; didn't have a doctorate in psychology; and didn't have a background in cyberpsychology, cyber investigations, or cybersecurity. She was also uncomfortable with my chosen topic of online spaces promoting violence against Black women because those online spaces mostly consisted of Black men. So, I completed my research at another university with a forensic psychiatrist as my chair. I hope to publish from that paper. 

Originally, another student and I were supposed to have a chair with a background in comparative psychology and animal behaviorism, which was appropriate for my alternative proposal of using technology to train service animals. However, he had competing obligations and could not take on more students.

I'm already working on my second doctorate in healthcare administration; don't know if I'll have the energy to finish it. But yes, my first doctorate was completed online.
