TLDR - In short, it all depends on the amount of effort/energy/resources & time the person has. There's a correlation between the speed of finishing the course with the amount of energy/resources/time each person puts into the course and also the level they would like to complete the course, some would like "better" to learn the material and some are just in there to get the credits quickly and some already know the topic and just want a review...
Sophia.org courses are very comparable to Study.com/StraighterLine courses as they don't all get graded on just one exam or final, meaning that the Assignments if any, Quizzes/Midterm/Finals are all going to accumulate percentages of the course and you just need that magic 70%+, failing the final in some cases still allow you to "pass" the course. Note: They use the Honor Code, which means - No Outside Help/Materials!
There really isn't any "secret" as any regular Jane/Joe can do it, by getting more screen real-estate (get a second). I tried a couple of the courses and because I knew the content, was able to complete both in a day (yes, I took College Readiness and Intro to IT for fun), you "speed" through everything as the answers are in the Unit Tutorials, just like some courses from StraighterLine, everything is open book including the final.
Sophia.org is the best system I have ever used, Study.com at a very close second, and StraighterLine a firm third. I retain information well with Sophia.org as the learning medium has both Audio/Video and an online or PDF Text I can read when I don't understand the material, just like Study.com it's not lengthy at 5-8 minutes each (a far cry from Onlinedegree.com 45+ minute lectures).
Further to that, for some courses, in case you're not "feeling" the lecture with one instructor, you have another instructor to select for the videos - for learning purposes, I have listened to all of them for areas of study I want to retain more (example, one course has 4 good instructors for each unit, that's 4x the same info crammed into your brain!).

Yes, what bjcheung77 says right above me. I've been trying to learn statistics for thirty years now. Family of CPAs and worked for my dad, I understand accounting and tax codes and still do my own taxes. It's direct, and makes sense to me. Statistics I can look at most charts and was angry about how people were lying with numbers. With Sophia.org Introduction to Statistics, I'm finally getting the vocabulary into my head. I'm up to the second unit exam now. I slowed down for a bit to finish up American Government with ICC for the last core class I needed. I need Statistics for the Psychology AOS.

I like Sophia, but I am getting very frustrated with the turn around time on getting my assignments graded for English Comp I & II. I have yet to receive a single grade back from English Comp I despite submitting my first paper over 25 days ago. I understand that it is free, but thats a very long delay because some of the courses require graded papers to be returned before you can submit the assignments. In turn, this creates roadblocks for future submissions. For instance, in English Comp II, I was able to submit the first three assignments, but I could not submit my fourth, until the third paper was graded. To me this makes no sense because assignment three does not correlate to assignment four in any way.
I have contacted Sophia several times through chat or messaging and yet get any real information. Despite the course being free, I am starting to wish I had just went with Straighterline for these two classes.
Current Course(s): Business Administration Capstone BUS-421 (TESU)
AMU (9); CSM (3); CLEP (15); DSST (3); InstantCert (15); Institutes (3); Military (51); Sophia (6); Straighterline (15); Study.com (6); Thomas Edison State University (3); University of Alaska (12)

I've taken every single course Sophia offers, except for Eng Comp II, and I definitely have an inking of what you're talking about.
Prior to the free promotion, I took Foundations of English Comp. I was spoiled by the fact that I could complete a Sophia course, click "submit", and see "Congratulations!" along with my final score, instantly. This may not be unique today but it is rare.
But it took about ten days to get my Foundations coursework scored, and it seemed like a lot longer!
Since I discovered the free courses, I've taken two out of the only other three Sophia courses with Touchstones (assignments), English Comp I and Public Speaking. So far, the soonest I've gotten anything back has been about two weeks. Like you, I can't complete my final assignments until all the others are graded, because in my case, one assignment in each course is to revise a previous assignment.
It's especially frustrating for me, because I'm confident that I've completed most of my Gen Ed and Elective requirements and have just UL courses left to work on, but I can't be certain of that until EC has reviewed my official transcripts.
With that said, I'm trying not to lose sight of the fact that this has been an amazing opportunity for me to finish my LL coursework at zero cost, without leaving my home. Too, I have to consider that Sophia staff, even if they're working at 100% efficiency despite the COVID-19 pandemic which has caused many other institutions to grind to a halt, must surely be overwhelmed by the response to this promotion. So I'm keeping my mouth shut and thinking, "they'll get to it when they get to it".
In your situation though, I would say that you have options. I've found Sophia's customer service to be reasonably responsive and accommodating. What I'd suggest is that you consider emailing them and asking to drop your English Comp courses. Then you could take them through Straighterline.
Just for comparison, I took a quick look at the SL Eng Comp I syllabus here: https://s3.amazonaws.com/StraighterLine/...itionI.pdf and it looks like you may be able to submit much of the coursework you prepared for the Sophia course, although you could check with SL to be sure this isn't a violation of the Student Code. Then you could just consider the free Sophia course as a study aid for the SL one, you should be able to speed through the SL quizzes and submit the papers. You'd only be out your time, but at least it was time well spent, studying relevant material and writing papers you will likely still be able to use.

I’m registered for SNHU and since I’m stuck at home and working from home I was looking for ways to get some gen ed out of the way when I stumbled across Sophia being free last week! I called SNHU with the goal to take everything I could. So my advisor was able to confirm I can apply all 42 credits of gen ed with the courses on Sophia and for my 33 free electives I can do any other Sophia courses! I started with the hard stuff Statistics, Bio, and finished those over 2 days. I’ve already done 10 classes and plugging away on English almost done with that so I can start the next one. I’m working on 2 more tonight to finish. I’ve been glued to my computer obviously and figured if I can’t do anything may as well take advantage of this opportunity! If anyone has any questions let me know ! I’ve done art history 1 and 2, us history 1 and 2, macro and micro , into to Pysc and intro to Soc. Working on ethics and Env science right now!
Hey there! Thanks for this. I'd like to know how the classes come in to meet SNHU requirements as SNHU has some very specific gen ed's that are unique to them. https://www.snhu.edu/admission/academic-...2f0061f517
Can you share the equivalencies?

Just posting to confirm that TESU accepts Intro to Religion (sent on the 04/24/20), which transferred as one of my Knowledge of Human Culture requirements since older posts in the thread stated TESU was no longer accepting the course (which I unknowingly already completed). May be because Sophia and TESU renewed their partnership according to https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...IA-courses.
