Adding planned credits at TESC?
#1
I'm transferring about 100 credits in to TESC BSBA General Management. I have a very detailed spreadsheet that I've used to track my courses to make sure I was taking classes that filled the various degree requirements. I am going through evaluation now.

One of my transcripts is ACE. Since I'll have to pay for each transcript and I'm still taking ACE courses, I wanted to add them to my evaluation as "planned" credits so I don't have a train-wreck eval with credits bumping to general ed slots when I had planned them to be used towards a specific requirement. I was told BY AN ADVISER to send an email with all my ACE courses and they could be added as planned until my official transcript is sent.

Got the following response:

"The Advising office cannot plan ACE courses onto your academic evaluation, per office policy. When you send the official transcript, the Registrar's office will add the credit."

Has anyone else had this issue? If you were able to block off planned credits, how did you go about getting that done?

Thanks!

I have heard the same. I haven't been able to block them off. In the case of Straighterline classes, I send a transcript to ACE and one to TESC directly (since it's free). This allows for me to see where they are placed. My other aleks and other ACE credits I'm just waiting to transfer all at once.
Currently studying for: Still deciding.

If memory serves a few people on the forum haver reported back they are no longer planning certain credit. But their was also one who did not have an issue. So it would seem the new policy was initiated but still available as an optional service depending upon the advisor (or possibly the school).

Once they recieve your transcript, evaluate and add the credit to your student record you will see the courses populate on your academic evaluation. At that time, if courses are askew you can make an appointment with advising or send an email (more thorough than the expressline) requesting the courses be pinned to specific slots.

They are always very accommodating in working with students to complete degree plans so no worries. I am only guessing they initiated this policy due to students calling in, adding planned courses, and most likely making lots of changes later. They would see that as a waste of time, which in all honesty is understandable.

You could try to contact the helpful advisor direct via the helpdesk ticket system. You are able to choose a name to send your request, just scroll through the drop down boxes. It used to be under advising, then the program(s) followed by names of advisors. It's probably someone who's been at the school for awhile and has no problem still adding the courses. You could also call the registrar and request the persons email address.

Good luck!

IMHO, at $15 per ACE transcript, it seems rather foolish to waste too much time and potential trouble over this issue. Get whatever ACE credits you have to date into your EVAL, plan for the rest with your advisor. Then pay the $15 for the update after you complete the credits while enrolled.

My theory is that they stopped planning ACE and NCCRS courses because the advisors were doing it, but the registrar could later disagree with the evaluation. Once an advisor plans a course, he or she has made a contract with the student. Whether or not the registrar agrees with the advisor's decision, the registrar has to let that decision stand. Uexcel tests were planned for me because the ones I asked about have already been evaluated by the registrar. The Javaonline.org courses could not be planned since they have never been evaluated and won't be until someone sends in a transcript.

In my experience, it depends on who the academic adviser is. Several of my ALEKS credits were planned into the ASBA academic evaluation by the ASBA adviser. However, about 6 ALEKS credits (if I remember rightly) have not been planned into my BA degree yet. The BA adviser gave a similar reason as what was given to the OP.

I had this issue planning my husband courses, they aren't planning aleks courses, but they did block off the courses for straighterline. You have to request approval of course for specific areas, a couple at a time, it took me 5 trys to get all the courses besides aleks blocked in...

Disappointing for sure. I have a hard time even getting them to confirm course equivalencies (Does abc transcribe as xyz?). Last response was "don't take anymore courses until your eval is done" and, with the holiday, it would be mid-Jan before I would even expect to start seeing my transcripts evaluated. REALLY frustrating for someone that's trying to continue taking classes. Thank goodness for this forum :-)
