Does anyone have any experience with TESC awarding AP credit. My specific question is that when I got out of high school, I attended the University of Tulsa for a semester. They have the least generous AP policy! They only awarded 3 credits for my AP English score of a 4 on one exam and a 5 on the other. Almost any other school would have awarded 6 credits for those scores. Is there any chance that TESC would add in additional credit for those scores?

Curiously, the TESC general catalog does not say how much credit is granted for specific AP exams. With that being the case, the next place to look is the College Board's website:
Thomas Edison State College - Accepts CLEP Credits - College Board | CLEP
63 CLEP Sociology
75 CLEP U.S. History II
63 CLEP College Algebra
70 CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature
68 DSST Technical Writing
72 CLEP U.S. History I
77 CLEP College Mathematics
470 DSST Statistics
53 CLEP College Composition
73 CLEP Biology
54 CLEP Chemistry
77 CLEP Information Systems and Computer Applications

Yes, I was pretty shocked that there was not much information on the TESC site about AP credit. I know what the College Board recommends, I just didn't know if TESC would award additional credit after TU had already given the 3 credits on my transcript.

Per TESC's website at
AP Tests , "The College Entrance Examination Board administers the Advanced Placement Program (AP), a series of college-level examinations, to high school juniors and seniors. Thomas Edison State College will grant up to 6 credits per exam for AP examinations for which a score of 3 or better has been awarded. Students should request that official score reports for these examinations be sent to the Office of the Registrar by contacting the AP Program at:
Advanced Placement Program (AP)
P.O. Box 6671
Princeton, NJ 08541-6671
(609) 771-7300"
Get your transcripts from the College Board for the AP tests. If you took the tests a long time ago, then they will be archived and the transcripts will take awhile. Mine arrived after my Academic Evaluation had already been completed, but TESC quickly updated it. I had credits for AP English Language and Composition as well as AP English Literature and Composition. TESC would award six credits for either one, but considers the two to be duplicative. I still got the six credits needed for Freshman Composition, though.

There is a tiny sample of members here who have reported their AP credit award, I'm always asking for others to post (please post once your eval is done!!). So, your Talsa awards won't matter, TESC will do their own evaluation. TESC awards credit for anything 3 or above, and I have *heard* that you can get 6 credits for a passing score, but I have no proof. I think you could get as much as 6 for your English exam (thus completing the full requirement) what was your exam that you scored a 5 on? (impressive btw)

AP finally mailed out my scores yesterday, and as with TESC eval's..I should know what they give me for AP Gov and AP His sometime next month. I'll be sure to update.

I just called TESC and was told that AP scores are only good for seven years, but then she told me that I had to have my scores sent to them. I'm not fully enrolled yet, so I just got whoever answered the phone. Has anyone heard the seven year thing before?

No. Mine were fourteen years old, and they took them.

That's good to hear. I didn't think that could be right. I just compared my AP transcript to my University of Tulsa transcript and they didn't give me any credit for my European History test at all! I was such a stupid kid back then, I guess I didn't even question it. I'm hoping TESC will at least give me credit for that score.

I hope this is the case, Jennifer! I got a 5 on Eng Lit/Comp, a 4 on Eng Lang/Comp, a 4 on US Gov, a 3 on Comparative Gov, and a 3 on European History. Tulsa gave me 3 credits for everything but European History, which they didn't count at all.
