AIMS $40 for 8 Grad Credits

rebel100 Wrote:Here is a great breakdown on accreditation: College Degree Mills - What is Online College Accreditation | GetEducated.com

A note from the above reference: "National Accreditation - Limits
Be forewarned that the majority of regionally accredited colleges (greater than 80 percent) do not accept courses and degrees earned at nationally accredited colleges as the equivalent of their own.
If you earn your bachelor’s degree at a DETC-accredited college, for example, the majority of regionally accredited colleges may not accept this bachelor’s degree as sufficient for entering their graduate level program of study.
Careers that are governed by state licensing boards—such as teaching, accounting and engineering—may not accept academic degrees unless these degrees are earned at regionally accredited universities".

Bottom line, why spend the time money and effort to gain a Nationally accredited degree when you can go RA as a minimum and avoid the headaches?
Okay, I get what you're saying, and I understand now. Thanks for posting those links. I've been over to geteducated.com in the past, but just didn't look this up on their site. Makes it all very clear now.

An RA and IACBE accredited MBA costs $7500 at Wayne State College.

Ra and acbsp at Eastern New Mexico runs about 7500 or a bit under 6000 without a concentration. This price is even for out of state residents provided they take 6 or less credits per semester.

OP, let me know if I'm hijacking the thread and I'll stop. Smile

I'm looking at Taft at $3500 (special discount if you start this October) versus WSC at $7500. Taft's willing to let me start now (which is huge for me) and it takes one year, whereas I probably wouldn't be able to start WSC until Spring at the soonest and it looks like they make you spend at least a year and a half.

I guess I just want someone smarter than me to tell me if that's a valid decision that at least kind of makes sense. Ultimately I want to end up with the foreign service, who probably care more about checking the box when it comes to education than about the details. Does anybody have any warnings before I jump into the MBA?

There had been some talk within the pastyear of the ENMU tuition deal for online non-NM residents who take no more than 6 credits going the way of the dodo bird by 2012- is that the case or not? That's definitely something that a person considering this program should look into and get confirmation on before enrolling.

The time and effort that you put into a NA MBA degree will probably equal the time and effort put into an RA MBA degree. At your age you should always be looking at what will give you the most options down the road.

NA MBA makes sense for older professionals who have the skills, only need the checkmark for career advancement and are working for a company that recognizes a NA MBA. I realize that the Foreign Service might recognize the NA MBA....but what if you leave the Foreign Service or decide you want to teach or work in private industry?

Your best scenario is to get a job within the foreign service and get tuition reimbursement while getting an quality MBA.

I say slow and steady. Find the least expensive quality MBA and take courses as you can afford them.

Kyle I say go for it. I will probably be going for a NA degree when I am finished as well. They are still acceptable in the government and they are more cost effective. I have been looking at Columbia Southern myself but if Taft who is well known although they have DETC are offering a degree for $3500 I'm in. Get started and get finished... Good Luck I will be following in your footsteps.

Also I know that you and I may get a lot of flack for this but it doesn't matter if the degree is NA or RA honestly unless you are planning on working in the private sector. Even then only some people want to see that you have a degree. Bottom line it beats a blank.

Okay, so I want to shoot for an RA MBA degree. How important is it to have AACSB or ACBSP accreditation for the MBA?

ENMU is RA with ACBSP accreditation. Should I just go for a Regionally accredited school that has a AACSB MBA program and forget everything else?

I'd like to move along as fast as possible, and I really wish I could do a self-paced program, but NCU is WAY to expensive for my super meager budget (if it could even be called a budget Confusedmilelol: ). I guess I just need to start taking courses that fit within my budget, and allow enough time to still work (hopefully starting my company soon, yippee :hurraySmile. If I can save some money soon, I'd like to start full force in January, but probably just taking 6 credits per semester at ENMU. I'd love to do a Masters in either applied economics or math. I've go the programs figured out for that as well (oh man, I just need to stop, I've got so many things that I want to do :nopity: :imwithstupid: )

WGU might be another option, RA but not AACSB, cost is fairly good as well.
