Sounds like we need a modern John Henry contest. Let's take an average college student and see if the human can bulls**t their way through a paper better than the machine can! Have them graded by a double blind panel of instructors, see what happens!

A college student managed to write a fake blog post that made it to the top of Hacker News

The blog post made it past the editors however, in the comments section, the readers figured out that the content sounded like it could have come from AI.
