College Composition CLEP contains two essays?
#1
Hi everyone,
I'm studying for the College Composition CLEP and some feedback in regards to the essay(s) on the test would be really helpful. I've heard there are two of them on the exam. Also, how anyone prepared for writing the essay(s) and their tips on practicing would be much appreciated. It's going to be the fifth CLEP I've taken and English is a subject I'm pretty strong in,
but still, I want to be sure I'll pass. Thanks!

You're correct. There's two essays.  One 30 minutes, and the other 40 (I think).  I write for a living, and let me tell you --- 30 minutes will BLOW by like it's 10.  I ran out of time on the second essay, but still scored a 73.

Here's my suggestions:
  1. Get your hands on the Official CLEP Study Guide.  It contains sample prompts, along with official responses, scores, and corresponding feedback.
  2. Get acquainted with the "5 x 5" essay model.
  3. Practice responding to a couple prompts from home, timed.
  4. On test day, carefully read the prompt and the sources they give you.  Jot down a general outline that includes your main thesis statement, then 3 supporting bullet points. Then fill it in.
Good luck!

Just got my score in the mail for College Composition CLEP and I passed with a 54! I did fine on the multiple choice section and the last
essay but totally bombed the first one (the argumentative essay). Anyway, just thankful to have 6 more credits and that I won't have to
take English 101 and 102 when I enroll. I found the most important thing in prepping for the exam was to practice writing timed essays and IC covers most of the material that is on the multiple choice section. Thanks to everyone for your advice!
