90 credit max transfer, does that include TECEPs?
#1
Sorry if this question has been posted before, search function isn't bringing this question up for me. For the TESU transfer maximum do their own TECEP exams apply to this limit or does it count as in house?

There is NOT a max credit transfer of 90 credits. You can transfer in 114 of the 120 credits needed for a degree. However, you MUST have at least 30 RA credits in your degree. 6 of those credits must come from the capstone and cornerstone, leaving 24 RA credits required.

TECEPs count toward the RA credit requirement. However, they do NOT count toward the residency credit requirement unless you are military rate.

If you transfer in 114 credits, TESU tuition & fees will be around $6500.
If you do one flat-rate 16-credit term at TESU (meeting residency credit requirements), TESU tuition & fees drop to around $4500.

Hi Math avoidant,

The 45/90 credit limit refers to the maximum number of transfer credits from ACE/NCCRS that TESU put into place at the beginning of 2021. TECEPs are credits from TESU and not considered transfer credits. However, be aware they also do not count towards residency at TESU.

The max transfer of 90cr is from a single provider - ACE or NCCRS. For a regular bachelor's degree, this is not a factor because you need 30cr of RA.

But, if you're looking at getting a bachelor's with 2 AoS for instance, you could bring in more than 90cr of ACE/NCCRS - but only 90cr from a single provider (so Sophia, Study.com, CLEP, etc.).

Thank you comrades for the clarification, most likely going to do COSC for what I've got in mind but I'm trying to keep my options open if something comes barreling out of the left field.

This is not true, and has not been true since March 2021. If you're getting two different degrees, you could bring in more than 90, but each individual degree has a maximum of 90 alternative credits, regardless of provider.

COSC has limited their credit transfers to "approved providers" and also have a 30 RA credit requirement. Is there a specific degree you're looking at from them that's not offered elsewhere? If not, I would recommend something else... Excelsior allows 113 credits and also accepts NCCRS, plus NA credits in addition to what COSC takes, in the long run - Excelsior should come up on par in cost to COSC as you can take the cheapest courses for transfer, in addition to the least amount of work, and quickest exams/courses.

@bjcheung77, going for a general studies history degree through cosc, from what I'm understanding of the cosc website TECEP and Uexcel exams count as RA credit so I just take a few of them to get my 24 RA credits and the other 6 are the cosc requirements. Basically just looking for a quick bachelors to teach english on, main issue with getting the excelsior equivalent degree is that many of the history electives that cosc considers upper credit worthy (on Study.com at least) excelsior thinks is only lower credit.

Depending on the transfers you have available, you can try to finish a UMPI BLS with a history minor, you can add another minor to it as well if you wanted. If you have the energy/time to complete the residency requirements at UMPI, you can finish in 1 or 2 sessions, the cost would be $1400 or $2800. This would be my recommendation as the courses you complete at UMPI are graded, so if you decide to go into a grad program that is slightly selective, you have a better GPA.

@bjcheung77, quick question while I'm thinking about it...are study.com course grades taken into account for GPA or are taken in strictly as pass or fail (for any of the big three schools, plus I suppose UMPI)? I do plan on eventually taking one of the American College's of Education master degrees and a minimum 2.50 GPA is requirements for admissions.
