Pierpont BOG AAS Update (Re: Transcripts)
Hello everyone,

Quick question. As of this date, can the 12 RA credit requirement be satisfied by means of ACE credits? If not, which online college is the most recommended/cost-effective to be able to get them?

Thanks for the info.

ACE credits are not RA credits, RA credits come from regionally accredited colleges and universities. TESU, WGU, etc.

MLM - Elmwood Inst./Patten University - May 2025

RA just means “Regionally Accredited”. ACE credits will not satisfy that requirement, because the companies that give exams/courses that ACE recommends credit for are not usually not regionally accredited schools.

You can try these options:
-ASU Earned Admission courses
-Olivet Nazarene University’s YourWay courses
-Excelsior College’s UExcel exams are considered RA
-TEL courses
-New Mexico Junior College (and most other New Mexico community colleges) are pretty cheap for out of state students
-TECEP exams are considered RA by some schools, but I think that depends on the school. Not sure how Pierpont treats them
-A local community college near you with cheap in-state tuition

UExcel is probably the cheapest, easiest way if you are familiar with the subject and have a testing center near you or do the online proctor.

The cheapest option is going to be ONU - at $50/cr ($150/course) with no extra fees or books
TECEP exams are $50/cr for LL courses, $75/cr for UL
UExcel exams are $165 minimum, plus study materials if you want/need them (some exams cost more)
Luna CC ~$160/course + books
TEL courses are $67/cr - so $200/course for most, includes all fees, no books to purchase
NMJC is $325/course for out-of-state ($75/cr + fees)
ASU/UL is $425/course, no fees or books to purchase

There are more options, but these are common.

Bear in mind that you only need one GRADED credit for Pierpont. ASU has a single self-paced graded credit available for $25. If you're a good test taker, TECEPs and UExcels are a good way to meet the credit requirements. Otherwise, ONU would be the cheapest self-paced non-exam way to get credits. TEL courses have two exams each.

That's true as far as graded credits, but don't they still require 12 RA credits in general? It's been a while since I looked at the requirements.

Edit: Actually, you don't even need the one graded credit. People were originally having to take at least one graded credit at Pierpont to receive a transcript, which has now been changed.

Per the BOG site:

"To fulfill residency requirements a minimum of 12 credit hours must be completed from a regionally accredited higher educational institution."
http://catalog.pierpont.edu/preview_prog...turnto=200

The 12 credits could be pass/fail in theory, they just need to be RA.

Yes/no. They can be pretty lenient as for what they consider to be "RA credits". It's the graded credit that can be an issue.

A member mentioned that the BOG AAS does require a graded course, it doesn't matter what course it is, but needs to be graded RA. The other credits can be RA exams that are P/F, as long as you have 12 RA credit's plus and 1 of them is graded, you're golden. The 48 other credits coming in can be all ACE credits... This was the case for the family member and the board member as well...

So is it just the AAS certificate or can you get transcripts without taking any classes?

You get the degree with transcripts now. They changed their policy. I earned my degree before the policy change and requested and received my transcripts recently without taking any courses at Pierpont.
