When you're transferring credits from an associate's to a bachelor's degree, the registrar's office at the bachelor's degree school will usually go through your transcript credit by credit. Those are the units they're interested in, that's the currency they trade in. They'd typically treat you the same if you had the same underlying credits but no associate's degree at all. It's only relatively occasional that a bachelor's program has a "block transfer" policy by which they accept an entire associate's degree as 60 semester hours of credit even if it contains credits they wouldn't otherwise accept in transfer.

OH! So what is the point of going through with the BOG when transferring to another college/university if they will just look at the Sophia credits?

It's a interim goal and achievement, often with little or no additional coursework than what the student would have done by that time otherwise.

It's a degree from a bricks-and-mortar public community college.

The emphasis area allows adding a subject to your résumé that might not be listed on your next degree, often Information Systems.

Ok. Thank you for explaining. I have no college experience other than Sophia courses. I am trying to decide what’s best for me. I cannot see how the BOG AAS is worth it in my circumstance. So I think I will just transfer the Sophia credits over alone.

There are reasons to get an associates, just in case life happens and you need something for the time being... In addition to the block transfer option to max the 60 credits, some institutions require an AAS (Applied Science) to get into their BAS (Applied Science) degree, without it - you won't be able to get in... So for example, someone with the Pierpont BOG AAS with an emphasis of their choice, can get into the UMPI BAS with a minor of their choice. If you don't get the Pierpont BOG AAS, you can always get the UMPI AALS (Liberal Studies) and then ladder that to the UMPI BLS (Liberal Studies).

Thank you. I was trying to find a way to lower my cost at SNHU. But, I do not think getting the BOG would do that. I will just take classes and transfer them
