Yeah, I was going for benefit of the doubt at least. Plagiarism was an issue at a school with some students I worked with a few years ago. Actually ended up finding a research paper that included them as respondents, and they just didn't know what constituted plagiarizing and what didn't. Some people think that paraphrasing can be a magic wand and aren't really trained differently.
I agree with you, but would like to see the specific examples the professor called out.
