Hi, I saw on a different thread that UMPI accepted their high school AP classes to fulfill the language GEC. I had 3 or 4 years of honors/ap French that I did well in, but I graduated in 2007. Would it be worth trying to see if this would work, or should I just suck it up and do sophia's Spanish I?

Questions: Did you take an Advanced Placement course in high school? At the end of the course, did you take the examination developed by the CollegeBoard, and administered by the Educational Testing Service? Did you earn a score of 3 or better?

I did take the ap French exam, but I don't think I did well. I have auditory processing issues related to adhd but didn't get diagnosed until a couple years ago.

UMPI did not give them credit for their AP courses - they gave them credit for the AP exam. You need to get your AP transcript from College Board - if you passed with a 3 or higher, then your credit should be 6-8cr (for French I & II - some schools will give 6, some will give 8).
If you did not pass, but think that you might be able to pass a RPT exam (reading proficiency test) instead, you could give that a shot - it's only $51 or so to take, and will get you 2, 3 or 6cr depending on your score.

Here's what you need to do to get transfer credit for AP exams:

Here's how AP exams transfer to UMPI and the required scores.

It really depends on your scenario/situation as you're not providing a clear picture of what options you've thought of... if you know your French well enough, you can do the CLEP exam using the Modern States voucher. If you have a 3 or higher in the AP exam, you can get the credit for $25 by having it sent to UMPI. If neither is a go, do the Sophia.org Spanish 1...

If you have an auditory processing disorder, I wouldn't go with the French CLEP exam, even if it is free. Instead, if you know French well enough, go for the ACTFL reading exam.
If you've forgotten most of the French you knew, spend a couple of weeks getting back up to speed with something like Duolingo.
Or you can just do Sophia Spanish.

Just to double down on Sophia Spanish - I have a friend that is going to attend UMPI and needs a language course; they have no background in Spanish outside of friends and were able to work through the Sophia Course in one month. Keep in mind that the lion's share of the time came from the slow grading process. In the end, they enjoyed the course, felt the grading was fair, and most of all, they passed and secured the credits.

The thing is, I actually really enjoy French. I've been kind of on a duolingo loop for a few years; go hard for a while, forget the app exists for several months, start again.
I'd try an exam, but the listening portion scares me. I can barely understand what's going on in tv shows or movies without subtitles.
Edit: whoops, I meant to reply to the person who recommended the clep exam. I'll look into the ACTFL!
