I don't know what you mean about avoiding TESU advising, what is the downside of communication with them? They are there to help you.
Things change all the time with TESU and what comes in as what and how that fits in the degree plan can change anytime without notice. If you verify which courses come in and get those added to your degree plan, you may at least increase your chances of getting an exemption when there is a policy change so you can get those courses added upon completion to your degree.
