ALEKS gives you an initial assessment (usually 20-30 questions), and the score is your BLUE line. Then, as you work through the pie, it gives periodic quizzes (usually 10 questions). The quizzes plus any work you do is your GREEN line score. Your GREEN line score is added to the BLUE line score to give a total score in the course. If you are at 79% in the course (BLUE + GREEN), then you can go into the master account and schedule another assessment (20-30 questions) for the student. If you score 70% or more on that assessment, then you are done with the course. You can request credit through your ACE account at that time. But you have to score 70% or more on the BLUE assessment score - the combined BLUE and GREEN scores don't count for credit.
Contrary to a couple of answers on here:
You definitely CAN complete the course. I took both Beginning Algebra and Intermediate Algebra to 100% (combined BLUE and GREEN) and then scored 100% on my assessments. The course said "Congratulations, you've completed XXX" or something to that effect. I was then prompted in the Master Account to switch over to the next level course.
Intermediate Algebra DOES count for credit on ACE, as does Beginning Algebra. TESU won't accept Beginning Algebra though, for credit; they will accept Int. Algebra. But I think COSC will take Beginning Algebra (not entirely sure of that). But it never hurts to put anything ACE-approved on your ACE transcript. TESU used to accept Beginning Algebra, and it was on my TESC transcript back in 2012. Then, I let my enrollment lapse, and when I re-applied, it was not on there because they stopped accepting it. But if I would have kept my enrollment going, it would still be on there as a GenEd course. So any time you do something ACE-approved, put it on your ACE transcript, even if you don't think you'll need it. It certainly can't hurt! And you never know what the next school will/won't accept.
