There's only one test for American Lit, but it is a 6 credit CLEP. If you're a member check out the Specific Feedback Section for that test; it'll tell you everything you need to know to pass it.
If not,
here is the blog post I wrote after I took that test. I highly recommend those lectures, btw. I know they helped me answer a few questions, and I just enjoyed listening to them. That's saying a lot too because I generally don't care for American Literature. :p

Elinor, are you referring to Dr Clark Closser? I loved those lectures, I even emailed him after I passed the test and thanked him. He was very nice, and said he gets emails from al over the world about those lectures!

Here is a
link for lots of useful info about the test including a link to the free Peterson practice tests! Also, I recommend 'Specific Exam Feedback' on this forum if you a paying member. There are a lot of posts in that section about what to focus on and what the test was like.

Yes! I thoroughly enjoyed those lectures! I really liked being able to occasionally hear the student-teacher interaction. Dr. Closser must be a good teacher.

April,
I took this CLEP last month and surprised myself with a 71! My primary study resources were the Idiot's Guide to American Lit and Barron's EZ-101 Study Keys for American Lit. I think anyone can score a pass with these two sources alone.
Good luck!

i cannot believe how hard this is. I am using the study guide from speedy prep and of course petersons. There is soooo much to study. I know alot of people say they pass I hope I do. So far I have felt confident while taking Goverment, Sociology, and History but this one seems very difficult.

April, there is a lot to this test, and it can be overwhelming. Definitely look into using the Idiot's Guide for this test! If I'm remembering correctly, a bunch of the posts in the specific feedback for this test are singing the praises of that book. For me, it made the information palatable, and the studying a little more guided... less overwhelming. I find that, if I don't have some sort of study guide, I tend to go all over the place, studying much less efficiently and really not getting much
studying done at all; the Idiot's Guide helped me do much less of that.
You can do this! Just stay focused and get it done!

Even without going to the subscriber only specific exam feedback, you can easily find a lot about this exam. Use the search feature and search for american literature. Or search for american literature idiot's guide and you'll see that people really like this book.
