Hi!
My college requires the optional essay for the analyzing and interpreting literature CLEP. Today was my test day. I went to the testing center and informed the staff there that I intended to take the optional essay portion, however they did not seem to be aware that such a thing existed. I advised them of what it said on the College Board's website, but they insisted if any essay was part of the test that it would be on the screen at my testing station.
I passed the exam with well over the required score for my school (they don't use the ACE scores for some reason), but now I am at a loss. Will I have to wait until December and try to take the test again at a new center? I really don't want it to come to that, but I also want my 3 credits. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Each testing center may be different, but for mine, they had to order the essays by mail. When I got to the testing center, it was a physical paper copy and I had to handwrite the two essays. I'm amazed that they haven't switched to an electronic form by now.
I'm not sure if you'll have to wait three months to take the essays, but I do know that you can take the essay portion separately from the multiple choice section, since that's what I was able to do. In other words, you won't have to re-take the entire test over again. You may have to contact College Board and ask them about the 3 month waiting period and explain to them what happened.

Also, the essays are not scored by CLEP - they are sent to your school for scoring. So you could ask if you could just do the essays in the testing center. Can't hurt to ask.
