norema Wrote:Sure! One thing just came to me today... I promised myself that I would finally take my dream trip to Paris after I got my Masters. My mistake is I didn't count on being this close to it... I'll try and see if at all possible I could make this dream come true or not... even if it's in going through a study abroad type way.

My family loves Paris. I would recommend it anyone. It does get very hot in the city in the summer. Very hot. But the city itself is so breathtaking, you will not want to come home. I need to plan a trip to there again myself. Smile

Well, since you've been there you have suggestions on where I start to look for everything... hotels... tours... etc. I have no idea of where to start... what time of year is best... where to stay, where not to stay... etc. etc... send info PM.

Having lived in Europe for 3 yrs I learned that a lot of places in Europe shut down for city or state (country) wide vacation. Most do this for the month of August, although some will vary. Yes, they shut down for most of August! You will want to inquire of all contacts about their specific vacation schedule for that area. A lot of basic services like govt offices and such close down and a lot of business close since most are family run or small businesses, so that may interfer or impact your plans. Also keep in mind that most hotels will share bathrooms between rooms and a lot don't have air conditioning in summer or heat in winter. They don't spend money to heat or cool a lot of businesses either. Also sometimes our idea of a 3 or 4 star hotel is not the same as their's, so be specific about things like bathrooms, AC and shower facilities an amenities you want or need. Just a few things to keep in mind. Most people who have never traveled to these areas don't think to ask about these types of things and travel agents don't tell. Good luck and enjoy!

norema Wrote:I don't know why they are requiring people to do the essays, because it only states that the grade given is the average of the exams. I like that point actually, easy 'A'. The courses having a graduate level number was important to me as well. I know Morningside's course number is not listed, that is why I called them to ask what they would be. I unfortunately did not write them down, I just wanted him to run them down to me and I did hear something like EDU 750 or something like that. I know I heard the seven first anyway, that's all that mattered to me. It doesn't matter which college you choose, because the courses are the same for all colleges. Although as I mentioned the price is not the same, why I don't know. It really looks like many colleges are seriously price gouging though. These prices are really just for administrative cost when you think about it. They aren't teaching the course, they are just providing a grade according to what the course already calculated. Then putting it on their transcript. Well anyway, I don't think it would matter, that's why after sorting through those that met all of my requirements I chose the cheapest out of them. I would have preferred to transfer my credits to Chadron State College since I just took graduate classes from them to be consistent will all of my graduate credits. Although since it wouldn't hurt me to transfer to Morningside instead and they were almost 3 and 1/2 times cheaper, I went that route. However for you, I don't know about credentialing guidelines and all that. I'd suggest to make all your calls before making a move. I think NYS United Teachers mentioned SAGE because it is also located in NY. Even though I don't know about the 5 year credentialing part, it does sound like having the credits transferred to a NY school for that reason would help you in that respect. Sages fees are not that bad though, so hey, what is the price of piece of mind? It's priceless!

Hi Norema,

I have a friend that is interested in these credits. Now how do they appear on your transcripting?? Did you use them to for upper level courses that EC requires? They do have quite a few of those. So in your liberal arts degree exactly how did they fit in is my question. She is thinking about getting hers from EC. Now EC did not have a problem with Morningside College right because it is RA? Also on your transcript how are they listed? I know so many questions but you seem to be the person who did it and it just makes one have to ask how was it done.

Thanks

The education credits were not used towards my EC bachelor degree, they will be applied towards the Amberton graduate degree. The graduate courses that I transferred to EC, were from Chadron State. I hadn't learned about the education courses at that time. I would suggest though to get prior approval from EC, giving them the description of the course and the course number that will be applied from the college that it will be sent to. If Morningside is to be used, call them to get their course number that will be used and send that in with the course description and make sure you state that the course is coming from Morningside. I don't think there would be a problem with it posting, it should work just like the straighterline - FHSU - EC transfers. The credits will more than likely be applied towards the 'UL any course area' category. Even though some courses are behavioral related, they are education courses. However, you may be able to push the issue for those particular courses to go towards the UL arts & science area...

Norema,

I curious as to why you chose Amberton instead of Morningside. You did the VESI courses through Morningside, but then transfered to Amberton, correct? Was it because of a specific degree you preferred? Or cost? Or??? Any thoughts (from Norema or anyone else) as to comparisons between Amberton and Morningside? Is either one a better overall school? Thanks for any comments or tips!

Yes, I wanted to obtain Amberton's, MA Prof. Dev. degree. I did notice that Morningside's MA in Teaching was for $160 per credit hour and only 18 credits of that have to come from them... Here is their brochure about it... http://webs.morningside.edu/gradedu/docu...re_000.pdf... great deal if anyone with a teaching certificate is interested in that degree... I start Amberton classes in September... They have a syllabus to all their courses on their website. That at least helps in knowing how the classes will be taught.
