Surprise Bill fro TESU for $3000 For Residency Waiver
#1
I did not think I would have to pay the residency fee before applying for graduation. I got a bill today in the mill with a June date. Today is the first I've every seen of it.

So, I took a course in March. I am worried that there will be more charges. I didn't think you could get charged the residency fee if the graduation fee hadn't been paid for? Now I'm freaking out because the payment date was in August and I can't pay it. I feel like this must have been a mistake because I never said I was done. Technically, I completed my degree requirements, but did not apply for graduation.

That's weird. I would contact TESU and get it straightened out. If necessary, claim that you want to add another degree or certificate. You don't have to complete those requirements, but it might make them back off for now.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)

Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

Yes, it was my understanding that if I maintained enrollment, I would not get charged, so ... Yeah, worried about getting sent to collections.

Weird because it doesn't even make sense to pay it before you apply to graduate. How do they know you don't intend to take more courses before graduation? Did you take the capstone? Maybe that's what triggered this.

This is one of those cases where I'd actually call them, even though I usually don't recommend that.

P.S. I wouldn't get too concerned. Most colleges don't bother with collections, they just hold onto transcripts and/or diplomas until fees are paid.

I did pass the capstone. I did a dual degree, but there were some courses I wanted to transfer in and I am not finished yet. They are hard and can't be completed in a short time.

I'd tell them that, and if they get snippy, maybe add a certificate or an associates so that officially, (no need to really work on it) you're still working towards something.

You have till October 1st to apply for graduation if you want to graduate in December. Then till November 1st, complete courses and get them added to your transcript.

Basically, I would keep it simple, Contact TESU and indicate you want to graduate later and haven't applied yet for graduation.

Have you contacted TESU and asked them about this? That's what you need to do.

If you call TESU, ask, as soon as you get through, if you have actually reached TESU, or their less-than-worthless third-party call center. A lot of TESU calls end up at the third party call center, and they don't identify themselves unless you very directly ask.

In my experience, the call center folks are unfailingly nice and try to be helpful, but the advice and information they give, unless it is for the simplest of problems, is nearly 100% wrong. And if there is anything they have to do, all they can do is send an email to the actual TEU people to fix it. So the whole thing is pretty much pointless and I do not, for the life of me, understand what purpose the third party call center serves. The same is true, though even worse, with their chat service.
