TAMUC BAAS Org Leadership Update
#21
Following in mohelena02's footsteps, I am finally enrolled in TAMUC-Org Leadership program for the Fall semester starting next month!

They have not evaluated my ACE credits from Sophia yet, but my advisor assured me they do. Hope to give an update next week. One of the biggest things that needs to be changed on the Wiki is the professional development requirements. It does not have to be business related at all! They took my fire academy, building construction classes, sign language, and business math. I think I will only have 11 classes to do after my Sophia classes are updated.

Communications- ENG 1 & 2 (Sophia)
Math- Algebra (Sophia)
Life and Phys Sciences- Oceanography Lab from previous school and Enviro Science (Sophia)
Language, Philosophy, Culture- Visual Communications (Sophia)
Creative Arts- Art History 1 (Sophia)
American History- US History 1 & 2 (Sophia)
Political Science/Government- US Gov from previous school and Texas Government- At TAMUC
Social/Behavioral Science- Intro to Psych from previous school, but I don't see why Sophia Psych would not count.
Component Area- Principals of Finance (Sophia) Intro Sociology (Sophia)
Professional Development- This is the one that almost anything can count. Military, professional experience, other college credits, ect.

*Everything listed as Sophia has not been confirmed yet. I will update. But going through the list this is what I believe to be accurate.

After that its the 10 courses for the major that need to be completed at TAMUC.
Also, anyone who is a Firefighter in Texas would have reduced tuition in this program using Texas Education Code 54.353. Looks like I'll only be paying $450 per term!

Amazing deal!  It's great to know the Professional Development courses can be anything, there are 48 credits, people can get 2 "emphasis/minors"!

Great stuff, thanks for letting us know about the Firefighter discount in reduced tuition, especially since those in Texas can now get it for $450/term!

Sophia Credits came through. Don't even go through Credly, spend the $5 and do Parchment. Here's what they took so far.

(6) Communications- ENG 1 & 2 (Sophia)
(3) Math- Algebra (Sophia)
(6) Life and Phys Sciences- Oceanography Lab from previous school and Enviro Science (Sophia)
(3) Language, Philosophy, Culture- Visual Communications (Sophia) Taking Ethics now to see if they take that instead.
(3) Creative Arts- Art History 1 (Sophia)
(6) American History- US History 1 & 2 (Sophia)
(6) Political Science/Government- US Gov from previous school and Texas Government- At TAMUC These are not available on Sophia
(3) Social/Behavioral Science- Intro to Psych from previous college. Intro to Sociology (Sophia)
(6) Component Area- Principals of Finance (Sophia) Intro Sociology (Sophia) Intro to Psych from previous college. Just finished Chemistry from Sophia, I'll update if they take this. Art 2 might work as well.
(48) Professional Development- This is the one that almost anything can count. Military, professional experience, other college credits, ect.

All in all this was promising that they took so many ACE credits already. It appears the only credits you cannot get on Sophia at this time is:
-Life/Phys Science might need one class with a lab? I'll try to get clarity on this one.
-American/Texas Government Classes. Texas Gov is a somewhat complicated requirement here in Texas. Only your advisor can figure out what you really need.

Did you get any clarity on a science with a lab being needed?  How many ACE credits do they accept?  How has this session gone for you so far?

I didn't get an extremely clear answer from her. (I'm sure I was one of a hundred students emailing her getting ready for the semester) But it sounds like there needs to be one class with a lab for science. They will take almost all ACE credits, the only classes you HAVE to take with them are the ORGL classes. Everything from the above post was correct on what placed where. It appears worst case scenario, you can take everything on Sophia except for the GOVT classes and a SCI Lab. Not too shabby!

I'm currently taking GOVT2306 and ORGL 3311. You are pretty much on your own with figuring out what the teacher actually wants on the essays and assignments. Everything has been YouTube videos or online documents to read and review. Really makes you critically think on what they want, but I learn better being able to research things on my own anyway, so its a plus for me. These will be the only two I take this semester because my job is having promotional testing, so I am spending the majority of my time studying that material since the competitive promotion process is a significant pay bump for me. I'll start doing more classes next semester. So far, if you were well versed in these subjects I would estimate that you could finish a class in 20-30 hours.

Oh, that's awesome, it'll be like going through a Sophia.org or a Study.com course... It'll be competition to UMPI for sure...

What issues were there with Credly?  I have some Coursera credits and a foreign language credit that are on Credly with ACE recommendations that I don't think can be sent through Parchment.
