Options for 16 Credits to Rid of Residency Waiver Fee
#11
To help with the strategy of taking 16 credits in a single term, I've added some information to the wiki about it: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Th...timization

Let me know if you encounter any similar "can't fail" (students are practically guaranteed a grade of at least a C as long as they do the work) courses one can take at TESU. I tried to pick ones that have no exams if possible and where the assignments appear to be relatively short & simple (per the syllabus).
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

@dfrecore,& @P226mem Yea I should be the final leg of the degree with the last 18 credits by the time I get there, so I'd have 100++ and most of AOS completed.

I see, thanks @Ideas, do they give course extension to anyone who pays the fee?

In regards to course extensions, you need to have more than 50% of the course completed and have permission from the instructor. It's not for everyone who can pay the fee. I would get in contact with your professor before you submit your request and see if they can approve you for that, some instructors may see you may have sufficient time to complete it and an extension is not needed, others may agree extending the course, it's all situation based and is different for each person...

I see thanks @rachel83az, really helpful! I'm in two minds, I want ideally to have some course from TESU so some of my GPA is counted and can be used for grad school(OMSCS). Since most of my classes are only pass/fail due to transfer in, sophia, study.com, I'm worried it won't be enough. But if I cramped, I probably won't get good grades anyways. I wish there's someone who's done it and can tell me those Study.com/Sophia grades can count towards the grad school considerations.

Thanks @bjcheung77, I see so will need to go asking and hoping it extends, yike otherwise it's 5 classes that we need to finish in 3 months.

If you have transfer credits from other schools, you'll have GPA's at those schools; if you later want to go to grad school, they will look at ALL of your graded credits and compute an internal GPA themselves.

Study.com and Sophia don't give grades, they give scores; and they will all only count as CR at TESU.  No GPA will come in for any non-RA credit there.

If you want more graded credit, you can take more graded credit at TESU, or elsewhere (like TEL or ONU); UExcel exams are also graded credit.

UExcel/TEL/ONU credits will transfer..? or are you saying those credits will count during grad school considerations?

It's both. Those credits will transfer to TESU. Later, when you go to grad school, the grad school will use your whole GPA from Excelsior/TEL/ONU to calculate your GPA. They won't just use TESU's institutional GPA.

Does this sound like a feasible plan to avoid the waiver fee?

1) Do math courses at West Texas A&M/APU to fulfill the rest of my math math UL.

2) Learn Cal 3, review world art from Sophia and begin writing some of the Capstone research paper prior (i want to do that as I'd like to see how i like research).

3) Start a term in TESU, take an easy to pass course from Wiki , use course extensions where I need (maybe on the capstone..):
  • 3cr - ART 100-World of art (did sophia art I & II but forgot most) (TESU)
  • 3cr - GOG 230 Wold Geography (have got some relevant doc from before to get me started) (TESU)
  • 3cr - MAT 331 Cal 3 (TESU)
  • 3cr - SOS 101info literacy (TESU)
  • 3cr - LIB 495 Capstone (TESU)
  • 1cr- PLA 100 prior learning (TESU)

Seems pretty reasonable for a plan. But how much of your degree do you have left? I would also suggest checking out the cost difference of taking more courses at TESU vs. taking almost everything elsewhere. For instance:

Term 1:
History of Math
Math Modeling
Cornerstone
1 easy LL course, 1 easy ePack (optional)

Term 2:
Calc 3
College Geometry
Capstone
1 easy LL course

Flat-rate tuition for 12 credits works out to be $386.58/credit. For 15 credits, it's $309.27. This is very close to APUS $306.67 (after fees) per credit. WTA&M is only $233/credit, but you must take 4 proctored exams for each math course. The above suggestion is probably a very bad plan, but gives you an idea of what I mean.

Thanks @rachel. Updated my signature to reflect that. Yea I've done the math and it saves me 2-3k, gets me some GPA from TESU (less mix of school rather than credits from APU/West Texa A&M). I just wonder if there's been anyone who's done a 16 credit term with capstone and lived to tell the tale!

Specifically how hard are those TESU courses, is it quite easy to get a grade/GPA?

I haven't taken those classes from anywhere, so I can't speak directly to the difficulty. But it sounds like most TESU courses are relatively easy to complete, so long as you follow the rubric(s) and understand the material. Like, if you're bad at calculus, then Calc 3 would obviously be super difficult no matter where you take it! But, if you aren't struggling with Calculus, then you should be good to go for taking those courses at TESU.
