TESU BACS HELP!!
#21
"If a school requires MORE courses in the major, then you're probably going to learn more in that major."
This is a good point. Again I'm not saying this to you. But the young people I know in real life who just got quick degree dont have skills, knowledge or experience and some are working minimum wage jobs. You are only 18 and even it takes you a few extra months more skills and knowledge of Computer Science may result in a better career in the end. This is part of the reason I ditched tesu in favor of a brick and mortar school. This post is no way telling you what to do just sharing my thoughts on this subject.
Tesu seems like a good choice to finish your degree with the least backtracking given your credits. And it was for me too, I was only 4 classes and a capstone away from a liberal arts degree at tesu. If my life had gone according to plan I would had my associates degree by the time I graduated high school and my bachelors by age 20. But life doesnt go according to plan. At the last minute I dropped the CC high school program and graduated high school with zero college credits. And now I'm 26 and still no bachelors (but I for sure graduate this year). But I already have multiple Associates degrees and I will have little or no debt for my bachelors. Honestly if life had gone according to plan many people on this forum wouldnt even be at the big 3 at all.

Obviously you know what is best for your life and if you know that's tesu then don't let anyone stop you from doing otherwise. See my above post about locking in a catalog with a tecep.

I understand your point and its worthwhile to others. I can see great value in those extra months but for me I see just a little different. What's more important 6months of extra classes that may be will be useful or I forget after passing or 6 months of internship that teach me much about the industry. That too me is far more valuable and a degree from your average school is key to that so speed is my priority. For me it's short term vs long term. Wgu 1 year save 4,000 tesu 6 months hopefully but gain a degree and potential to make 5x that amount in internship. Wgu a great option but it's just not for me at this moment

Honestly I think you are doing great because I had the chance for CC credit in high school and I first heard about clep in high school too. I didnt take my first clep until 2years after high school graduation. I learned about tesu my senior year of high school. Good job to you for putting in the work now something I did not do at your age even though I knew all this was out there.

And my post I wasn't talking about wgu at all. I was more referring to the fact that you are young and have more time to learn and gain knowledge.

I'll add my two cents without going into best or preferred schools.

1) The internship, will they require the degree to be conferred before starting the internship?

The reason I ask, some companies whether its internship or employment will not consider completion of degree until the degree is conferred. I would recommend you verify with the employer about their requirements.

2) For the summer, have you thought about a community college because many offer 4 weeks courses during the summer  (either in-person or online) and if you take two courses you would qualify for pell grant and federal student aid (COA) cost of living. Example. June 8 to July 10.

The reason I ask, taking a couple of courses during the summer is a quick method to access pell grants and federal student aid (COA) cost of living, which you could use the extra funds to pay for study.com and other alternative course providers. Once you graduate you will no longer have access to pell grants.

3) Have you been an intern before and is the upcoming internship already reserved for you?

The reason I ask, I have hired many interns over the years and I spend more time evaluating their portfolio including projects, recent certifications and their interview skills.
