It's probably only worth it if she takes both courses. The whole stack is 5 courses. There are 2 this Fall and 2 in the Spring. There were 2 this summer (one of these is being repeated in the Spring). It's unlikely these would transfer into another school's MFA program, so the real benefit is having the credits to moonlight. The only way to reach that 18 credit threshold is by take all 5 courses.
The reason these courses are so cheap is because of a grant from Poetry in America. The grant is funds the reduced price through Spring, but its not clear if it will be renewed. The courses will almost surely be available after Spring, but its unclear if the price will be $2750 or $200. It seems really risky to only take one course this semester if theres a chance she would have to pay full price to finish the stack later on.
If she just graduated this year, she is still able to use the American Opportunity Tax Credit to offset the cost of the courses. She could even squeeze the Spring courses in the tax credit as long as she paid for them by December 31st.

The 18 credit threshold can be achieved anywhere and in any combination, so the worst that happens is she would have to pick up a couple of credits somewhere. An English major should be able to do these courses pretty easily.

She's also working on her teaching credential so she has tests to prepare for, prerequisites to take and classroom observation to do, and just could not make a bigger commitment. If they continue the program, great she can continue with it, if not, she'll still have some grad credits to build on. Next semester she could probably take two, if she wants to.

My scores came in on the final paper: 80%. That means they graded it hard. I felt good about the paper and I usually score better than that. Still, I will finish with a 91.8% overall. A- is not too bad. Good course.

Congratulations. I've been flirting with the idea of taking these courses and ended up deciding against it. Do you plan on taking the rest of the courses?

Yes. I am planning to take all of the courses. I am just about to start my 20th year teaching HS English so this is in my wheelhouse and it will let me teach at the college level. It is perfect, really.

I ended up with an A- as well and ended up registering for both courses for the Fall semester. I thought it was a good course.

For reference, in case this info is helpful to anyone, I'm currently enrolled at COSC, and needed an Upper Level course to fill a hole in my degree plan. Once I became aware of the Poetry in America series for $250, I was all over it. After asking my Student Advisor, who double-checked with the Registrar, both of them emailed me back to confirm that if taken for Graduate-level credit, ENGL E-182HPoetry in America: Whitman and Dickinson will transfer in to Charter Oak as Upper Level. (One would assume that would be similarly true of any Poetry In America series courses taken at grduate level...but your actual mileage my vary. Check with your student advisor first.)
Filling a hole in my degree requirements + getting a head start on graduate level credits + getting Harvard on my resume = win-win-win.
I will probably take other Poetry in America courses, because banking up cheap Harvard graduate level credit is too good a deal to pass up! I hate that I didn't know about this soon enough to take the hip-hop course. I love NY hip-hop! Hopefully they'll repeat the course soon.

Does anyone have a copy of the syllabus from a prior course in this series from last semester? Just curious to see what it would entail? I'm taking grad course at FHSU and working F/T and raising a family, so I don't know if I could swing 2 courses, put this is almost too good to let pass by without taking advantage of the opportunity to have courses from Harvard on my transcripts.

Same professor has a condensed MOOC called Poetry in America: Whitman - you can look at to get an idea- or complete it, it's FREE. https://courses.edx.org/courses/course-v...17/course/
I did the MOOC course before the summer session started. (you can watch videos on 2x speed and still do the exercises)
Here's the summer syllabus for the real course https://canvas.harvard.edu/courses/41435...s/syllabus
