AAS at Pierpont Vs WVNCC (or other WV CC's)

Perhaps I am not looking outside of the box but can someone share the value for these AAS degrees being mentioned? Is this focused on finding a home/value for some orphan RA community credits, a cost value with degree transfer into BS/BA or is this just wanting to add another degree to ones portfolio?

The main reason people are going for these degrees is because they have RA credits that are transferable and it is to fill a void before they go and get their bachelors from one of the Big 3 or Competency Based degree providers. People work at vastly different paces, it would be hard for all to finish an Associates and Bachelors within one year to use the Residency/Graduation fee once, the chance/risk of getting charged twice is significant. The fees for the AAS are just for the transcripts, doesn't cost anything else, so it's essentially a no brainer for those wanting an Associates at the cheapest rate.

Update as of 7/5/2017

WVNCC (VP of Academic Affairs - Jill) informed me that as of summer 2017, they now require 15 credits from WVNCC to meet their residency requirement

This, in my opinion, is monumentally stupid.

My CC Advisor (Texas) told me that they gain funding based upon how many people graduate, which is why she pushed to get students every certificate they were eligible for. Assuming WV works similarly, they will reduce their potential funding gain by requiring 15 in-house credits.

Excellent breakdown - thank you. Sometimes, you just have to look at the project through other people's eyes (or needs). During my run, I had tunnel vision on the BSBA that the ASBA was a bonus. My daughter is getting her AS in Mathematics and BS in Finance, so it's requiring me to pay more attention to the details to ensure it goes as planned.

For me,

I would get one because the bachelors I am pursuing doesn't have a concentration, so if I could get an AS or AAS in something I do, I'd do it.

Update as of 7/5/2017

Pierpont (Dir of Assessment - Nancy) confirmed no residency requirement needed and no costs involved (still need to meet the CC credit requirement from other schools)

WVU Parkersburg (Program Specialist - Kim) despite website showing 15 credits, she states that only 3 credits at WVUP are needed, along with the other CC credits from other schools (out of state tuition puts that cost around $1,000)

So is it no longer possible to have the residency requirement waived at WVNCC?

I just recently started paying attention to these BOG AAS threads, and I am glad I did! I am currently enrolled in a local CC AAS program with two semesters left to complete, but with courses I have taken online I should have enough proper credits to qualify for this and get my AAS much sooner and just focus on my Bachelors.

If they do not waive this anymore I guess I can still get it from Pierpont, but damn I wanted to be a Thunder Chicken!

Well dang, in searching for an answer for this I came across what may be a deal breaker for me.

"Students must not hold a degree from an accredited institution nor be enrolled simultaneously in another degree program."

I am of course enrolled in a CC program, and already registered for fall.

So it looks like this may not work out for me.

Yeah, I only recommend it to a select few for the Associates Degrees... I mainly cheer them onward to a Bachelors instead.

One additional benefit not mentioned - WGU, for instance, will take a block transfer of your Gen Ed's (about 30cr) with a AA/AS/AAS. So, if you already had the credits to get an AAS from one of these schools, but didn't have all of your Gen Ed's completed for the WGU degree, then this would be a cheap, fast and easy way to bypass the requirement.
