If you know your literature, get into the Shmoop mindset, keep all your tabs open for each unit (as well as the synopsis and symbolism pages for lit) so you're ready for the unit test, and are willing to spend 12-14 hours a day busting it out, you can complete all the lit and history courses in two weeks. 39 credits for around $88. It's not fun, but it is doable.
But don't bother with Contemporary Lit. It is unpassable.
you can also just buy degrees online, if you're not into actually learning anything

This would be a fun challenge if I needed these courses again. I am wondering if this would be a good route for my son/15 who is strong in both subjects. He homeschools 3 days of the week and definitely could put some time behind the task (39 might be putting a little too much weight on the little dude

you can do most any shmoop course in a week. several of them can be done in a day or two. your son could probably do 10 in a month without stressing too hard. for $88, that's plenty

APUS was one of my favorite schools that I have attended out of 10 so far. The format through all courses is pretty much the same, so once you complete one course you know what is expected. The students are also more involved and I would say a little more on the upper end pushing to work a little harder. APUS is on my short list for a MA this year.
MA in progress
Certificate in the Study of Capitalism - University of Arkansas
BS, Business Administration - Ashworth College
Certificates in Accounting & Finance
BA, Regents Bachelor of Arts - West Virginia University
AAS & AGS

I subscribed to Shmoop on Thursday, January 25 and as of tonight, Monday, January 29, I've taken and passed Film Studies (3cr), Drugs in Literature (3cr), Holocaust Literature (3cr), Women's Literature (3cr), Modernist Literature (3cr) and Literature in the Media (3cr). If *I* can do it, so can most. It's a lot of work but it's quite conquerable!

yes, i'm well aware of what shmoop transfers as. my point was that taking 20 classes a week with the tabs open is a joke. you aren't going to learn anything so what are you doing? just paying money to get a degree, which symbolizes no actual learning on your part. if that's all you want, people sell them. the point is supposed to be that you actually learn something while moving through the process as quickly and cheaply as possible

Everyone learns / retains differently and there are different reasons for why people get a degree. What makes the "open tab" concept any different than say, an open book test? It has been my experience that some coursework is compulsory not for the sake of learning per se, but for the development of critical thinking skills. As far as I'm concerned, there's no right or wrong way to learn.. to each their own.
