Is anyone able to confirm that Ashford University's residency requirement is not literal? That is, that it requires a certain number of courses be taken through them but not actually being physically present there? That's how I understand it, but I have a family member who is concerned I may be misinterpreting.

Ashford doesn't have a campus anymore. Most schools use residency requirement to refer to courses that have to be taken with the school whether online or on campus. If they needed you to visit the campus, they would say so. Usually, low residency graduate programs use residency to refer to campus visits.
